1.09 Assassin Planning Questions/Build Proposal

Re: 1.09 Assassin Planning Questions/Build Proposal

Nice pic!

Anyway, I guess I should go ahead and plan on a SS since a have a couple, though I think that precludes a dual claw weapon switch since the resists would drop so much. I've even managed to work out 75/75/84/59 pre-Hell Anya resists (thanks to plenty of resist charms).

So here's the planned gear layout:

Helm: G Face (14Res@ jewel)
Ammy: +2 Shadow, 41/19/19/19, mana leech, etc
Armor: Iceblink (14Res@ jewel)
Weapon 1: "Black" Knout (Scourge when available)
Shield 1: Stormshield (pDiamond) (19/79/44/19)
Weapon 2: Bartuc's Cutthroat
Shield 2: "Rhyme" Hyperion (or the other Stormshield?)
Ring 1: BKWB (or RF - don't need Rhyme if I have a RF on)
Ring 2: Scintilllating Ring of the Leech (15/15/15/15)
Belt: Thundergod's Vigor (makes MSLE your best friend)
Gloves: Rare with +2 MA skills, 20% IAS, 0/0/0/13
Boots: Goblin Toe

Charms:
2x Entrapping GC
1x Mentalist GC
2x Shimmering SC
Ruby SC + GC
2x Amber SC + GC
Emerald SC + GC
Sharp LC of Quality (+8 max damage, +35 AR)

...so that, with the Cube and a Tome of TP, leaves 2 open columns in the inventory. I'm thinking a mix of Inertias and Balances (though how much over the 30% FHR from G Face do I need) - any other ideas?

Merc will likely sport "Smoke" in some eth elite armor, Blackhorn's Face (Vamp's Gaze for cows), and Hone Sundan (AmnAmnShael).

Looks good. Doubt that you will need more FHR due to the freeze on the monsters.

Re: 1.09 Assassin Planning Questions/Build Proposal

Yeah, that 30% FHR hits a lot of breakpoints - I looked it up on the table, and the Sin is right up there with the Barb and Pally on the range. Hmmm - maybe some nice Steel GCs then? Or load up on those sweet 5% FRW SCs of Inertia? I have a lot of those.

Congrats on the Slayer title BTW - hope to join you soon, but I'm not sure I'll be able to stay with your progress. The thing that happens to me is I play her just fine, but then her inventory gets full (chippies, mostly) and, instead of opening ATMA and muling out the stuff, I just pick up another character and do some MF runs. (BTW, my Zon made level 98 last night!) But I'm having fun playing the Sin, so I will probably keep with her better than I did the Necro.

I just realized that she's high enough level to have a SW, so I'll test out running with that tonight.

Re: 1.09 Assassin Planning Questions/Build Proposal

Had a Goblin Toe after all. Did a quick run to level 15 using Sigons, Angelic, and a rare claw. Envy breastplate on the rogue merc. Super easy so far, but I'll have to pull back and MF once I'm in the 30s to get that Guillaume's.

I agree that the duration on BS is very short. I think I used to dump points there just for duration, even though back in the day the wisdom was to get duration off of +skills. Having it last a minute or so seemed worth it to me at the time.

Are either of you going to test polearms? I have a few worth checking but I am worried about meeting reqs on so many different gear ideas.

Re: 1.09 Assassin Planning Questions/Build Proposal

Damage to Mana, Energy Shield. She can't die. Stand in the middle of cows, rain down meteors. Laugh while they try to hurt you.

I've been thinking about this - since I've found a couple Naj's Light Plates, this DTM ES thing has me thinking (I'm assuming it got nerfed in 1.10+). For this to work, do I need to get the DGTM to 100%? Naj's Light Plate + Tal Rasha's belt, perhaps? What about this build with a Lightning Sorc? Nova, perhaps? I hear Nova is strong in 1.09. I have Lightning skillers going to waste.

Robby hmmm yeah you are right..It is the 1.07, 1.08 version. I had one befoer. Here is the stats (attack speed yum)!. I think its a bette trap claw than the 1.09 one.

Here is some pics of the bartucs and glove + another decent claw from 1.07. And couldnt resist in giving you some incentive for 1.07

Holy crap, I just got a good look at that Arkaine's! WOW, that is just a CRAZY armor! *Sigh* I've spent almost 2 years in 1.09... I don't think I'm ready for that kind of investment in 1.07, but that armor shines like crazy!

***********UPDATE on Osterizer************

Got to Act 2 - Andy was cake (gogo Death Set!) but killed both the merc and the SW. Saving points - I was getting ready to mule Act2 merc gear (probably will go with Defiance for Normal since the Angelic set makes AR a non-issue), then decided to do a quick Countess/MF run with the Barb. As usual, after filling his inventory, the Zon's and the Sorc's, it was too late to do any more with the Sin.

I'll be ready to start Act 2 with a fresh merc, though - Iceblink has long been a favorite early Merc armor, along with Face of Horror and Bloodthief, so I'll mule those over.

Osterizer is level 19 starting Act 2 - I'll try to focus on levelling to keep her well ahead of the mosters for when Blade Shield becomes available.

Keep in mind I have a collection of G Faces and a trade profile - those have not proven any more common than Vamp's Gazes for me, so it might not drop right away for you. I think I have a total of 5 or 6 after close to 2 years of play. I know you want to go self-found - just sayin', just in case.

About Polearms - what other than the Hone Sundan (actually not a polearm) are you planning on testing? Woestave - that would make Iceblink overkill, but then you need to make up some CB. I might try the Hone, but the equipment requirements make resists tricky to meet without a shield (even with a shield, to be honest), so I probably won't try that until after matting her. Since I understand that leech doesn't work with Blade Shield (right?), I'll probably try something like NefShaelShael in it.

Hi chaps..

REgarding the DTM builds. I have two sorcs in 1.09 and one is build around that DR build. It uses only Tals belt as Damage to mana source. I think Its about geting max block DR and DTM all together to become untouchable. The sorc has just started Hell with the "best gear" so i dont know how she will hande the hell cows yet. Eric what was your gear on that sorc?

I have a nova sorc aswell in 1.09 :). Had to try one to see what all the fuss was about hehe..She is an ORB/Nova build raping NM cows at the moment. She only has one light skiller and i think i need more to ba able to handle hell cows fast. I was actually contemplating a DR Nova build but it can never be as good as the Meteor kind due to the need of fast cast. But Stormshield can worn and still reach 105 breakpoint (novas max as i understand it).

Time to play abit more. I will also not just play the assassin nonstop since i wanna see both sorcs in hell cows (and need to be more lucky with the charm rerolls to get the light skillers).

Congratz on reaching lvl 98:thumbup: . I have a fury zon in 1.09 going for 99 aswell (currently 88) (want one of the sorcs aswell to 99 but dunno if i will make it)..

I dont know if the two handed road for the sin is the way to go. The build is most comfortable with packs and you will need to SS for that. I have hone sundan so i guess i will try it anyway and we will see if the range makes alot iof difference.

Man all this time travelling really is time consuming :whistling: but fun:smug:

You don't need to devote 2 years to it. In fact, you could play for 20 years and Arkaine's would never drop, since the drop mechanics are broken in 1.07. Instead, all you need to do is build a 1.07 sorceress (probably Static/FO), get some decent FCR (Spectral Shard can drop, and magics are always doable), and work you way to LK or Nikki Halls in Hell. You then reroll your maps until you find a rack that consistently drops the right armour, and after ~1000 runs (depending on your luck!) you will have your shiny treasure.

EDIT: It doesn't have to be a sorceress, but those are easy to gear and fast with racking.

Re: 1.09 Assassin Planning Questions/Build Proposal

I'm actually using...Nightsmoke. I've been thinking about making a mat or a 99 thread for her when she gets there, just so the forum can have a modern version of her guide available. She's the perfect build for playing drunk...no reflexes required! Unless you get a might aura on an extra strong or cursed boss.

I'll mess around with Meph for a few days and if that doesn't pan out I'll trade for the G Face.

Polearms: definitely Hone Sundan. But a few others could be amusing: Kelpie, some of the Open Wounds spears like Impaler, etc. It would just be FOR SCIENCE!

Re: 1.09 Assassin Planning Questions/Build Proposal

OK, I've finished getting Osterizer to Matriarch (linky) and she was effective enough to get past the Ancients on the first try, but I ended up not emphasizing the Blender side (other than the CB from G-Face and Goblin Toe) and replaced the 'Strength' Claws and Iceblink with Bartuc's and Naj's Light Plate.

Anyway, I was reading Kyrandia's ES Nova/Orb post again, still thinking about that Nova/ES idea, and I really liked the use of a Memory staff for casting Energy Shield to free up points for other skills. Well, running Countess for Vex produced this Memory Base Goodness, and now I'm back to contemplating this.

So, I'm thinking of a Tri-Elemental, with Nova as primary, Orb as secondary, and Meteor for the real tricky monsters. Relying on the Memory staff (level 8, not counting the +skills from 2xSoJ, Shako, Occy, and all those Sparking charms) for ES, I am thinking of the following Skill allocation:

Cold: 20 Orb and 5 CM (5 Prereqs) for 30 total
Lightning: 20 Nova, 20 LM, and 1 each in Static, TK, TP
Fire: 1 in Warmth, and pump Meteor last - with prereqs, that would allow for level 16 Meteor at level 80 for the very occasional LI/CI

So, here's my question - what has been your experience with Nova and/or ES? Is it worth building, and what do you think of my idea for the Tri-Elemental Nova Sorc with a Memory-based ES?
