merc armor?

whats some good armor for your merc for a fishy?

was looking in the guide and it said shaft, but it seems a lil dated because there are no runewords on the merc. or suggestions for them.

i was thinking fortitude. but made in what? if i made it in eth sacred armor, he would need 222 str. and for that he'd need to be lvl 97 to reach. keep in mind this is factoring in the +15 from guills. is there a better armor to make it in? or any other suggestions? like if i get a andys and put a fal in it, i could wear it. but then im loosing the 35% CB and gaining some negative resistance.


suggestions?

any eth bugged armour with over 1k base defense is good enough, as long as it has sensible reqs and your merc can wear it without much, if any sacrifice.

Oh, hope you're reading this too, if you happen to get a 3socketed Ebug armor, i suggest slapping a Treachery in it ^^

That translates in DR (Good) Resists (Good) Ias (Good) FHR (Good)
Also venom proc increases damage slightly.

Sort of poormans version of Stone or CoH

Oh, and about the Ias, More hit's -> more Cb procs -> more dmg.

Anyways, if you are open to the budget on getting forti, go for it.

There's really not such thing as 'too much' crushing blow though. My personal favorite setup would be guiliame's, infinity in an eth thresher, and an eth bugged CoH with 1k+ def base. Fortitude is great if you want big numbers on the merc's screen but CoH will add almost as much damage from the +skills and the +strength while also offering my better defensive stats. When you're having trouble keeping the merc alive, like in uber tristram, you'll almost always want a CoH for him anyway so why not keep it on all the time?

for your merc, get a CoH, Andy's, and Infinity. gets you +4 to your mercs might aura, good CB, some IAS on your helm to help reach faster break points, a lot of resist(CoH counters the -res on andy's without having to ral/30FR jewel it).

Really no better set up for a summoner(cannot stand the title fishymancer, makes no sense what so ever and sounds so stupid)

to be fair, summonecros have basically been around since day one(though they sucked at first) and have been fairly popular for a majority of that time.

Agreed. Too bad that CoH is number 3 on my super runeword list. I may never get to make one.

How important do you guys think "Cannot Be Frozen" is on a merc? Duriel's Shell has it, and it makes me wonder how much consideration should be given to it.

Also, do Vitality bonuses give life to mercs?

It doesn't work with holy freeze aura anyway. Didn't notice the difference when exchanged duriel's with dusk forty. Over than 3 times defence, 1.5 times damage increase and that's all.
Also, do Vitality bonuses give life to mercs?
It seems they have no vitality to modify: their HP calculates from their pure lvl, not including stats.

Cannot be frozen is essential, if there are enemies that freeze you need a merc to kill. This doesn't happen all that often really unless you're running uber tristram or the sublevels in the caves in act 5. It's really a mod you can sub in as necessary and my favorite source is kira's.

Defense on a merc is really overrated for a minion master. The merc is getting hit by attacks that do defense checks so rarely with an army up and curses being flung about. Which isn't to say it shouldn't be a factor at all, just that a couple thousand defense really isn't worth trading other, superior defensive stats for.

imo best merc setup:

Armour --> gladiators bane. Damage reduction, high defense, and socket for ias jool.
Hlemet --> kiras for overstacked res, and socket for ias jool.
Stick --> depends on char / build you playing with.

both kira and gbane has CBA mode, with maxed res, high def, overstucked res, only little problem is lifeleech, but like i also mentioned earlier, you got a stick 8D

CoH is probably the best merc armor (life leach and resists).

For normal gaming I then would use guillaume's and insight.

For ubers, probably kiras and infinity.
