Battle.net help please!!!

Hi, I'm new here and am looking for help. I'm sure you get a bunch of these thread topics, but I checked the other threads and none of them fixed my problem.

I recently decided to play Diablo 2: LOD again, and installed it on my Toshiba 2.1GHz laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit. When I finised downloading it, it said it had "Compatability Issues", and there was no solutions available.
When I try to connect to Battle.net, it gives me the error message "Unable to connect..." (in all realms). I have the lastest 1.12 patch, which I had to manually download because it wouldn't connect.

My internet provider is AT&T U-Verse, and I have the 2-Wire 3800HGV-B modem/router combo. I turned the necessary ports on and even disabled my firewall. Tried running it in windows mode, tried running it using the Windows Service Pack 2(and 3) Compatability Mode, and tried running it as an administrator.

----------------------------------------------

Thinking it was because of Windows 7, I downloaded D2 on my Dell 2400 desktop computer with Windows XP Service Pack 2, disabled the firewall, opened the ports, etc. etc. ....still nothing.

I'm just looking for a solution to either the laptop or the desktop, which ever is easier, or if they are the same. I really would like to play this game

Re: Battle.net help please!!!

I have windows 7 and I can connect to battlenet.

Have you tried reinstalling Diablo? I remember when I installed it on this computer I got the compatability message too. I did not allow windows to alter the installation. If windows tried to "fix" the compatability problem, that may be why you can't connect.

Re: Battle.net help please!!!

Yes, I have installed it at least 3 times on both the desktop and the laptop.

When running the "tracert uswest.battle.net" in the cmd prompt, I get asterisks and "Request timed out" on the 5th hop, and then all the hops after it has made it all the way through (11-30).

I contacted U-Verse and they said because I could browse the internet and could get on WoW it must be a problem with Battle.net

Any ideas on what I should do?

Re: Battle.net help please!!!

For the closed realms, you do not need to do anything regarding port forwarding. Try disabling any forwards you have set up.

Regarding the traceroute, not every hop will necessarily respond to the request... even if it is working properly.

Re: Battle.net help please!!!

check your router settings, disable forward of ports 4000 and 6112
and try disabling your software firewalls

try the telnet trick to see if 6112 is open
but vista and 7 dont have telnet installed by default

Open control panel.
Then go into programs.
Then in programs and features
Click ‘turn windows features on or off ‘
on the list that appears check the box beside: Telnet Client.
Then click ok.

start -> run (search vista/7) -> cmd [enter]
telnet uswest.battle.net 6112 [enter]
C

it will give your internet ip if port 6112 is open

I just disabled all the fowards I opened up on my desktop (Windows XP Professional) and I still got the same Unable to connect message.

If I posted the results of my traceroute, would you be able to determine if it is working correctly?

First I allowed D2 access through my firewall, didn't work. Then I shut off my firewall still nothing. The ports were originally closed and it didn't work, so I opened them and it also didn't work.
I did what you said about the telnet on my laptop (Windows 7) and after I typed it, it didn't give me my internet ip, it only gave me a blank cmd promp screen titled "Telnet uswest..." and a blinking white bar in the upper left. Ideas?

I can't imagine why your XP machine would be having issues. Could it be your router?

Lol. I don't know! It's not working on the laptop (windows 7) or the desktop (windows xp) I contacted my ISP provider (ATT U-verse) and they said because I'm able to surf the internet and play WoW that the problem wasn't with my router. Basically told me to eff off =/

hit C

Re: Battle.net help please!!!

after the blank screen, then hit C
will result
Code:
 This is a Battle.net server

Your IP address is [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]

Connection to host lost.
if 6112 is open

looks like something is blocking 6112

look over your router settings, and disable forwards starcraft or diablo related
they are used for hosting open and tcp/ip games on the internet

edit:

looks like they changed it,

C must be lower case c

As of right now my router is configured to allow ports TCP 4000 TCP 6112 and UDP 6112-6119. Is this not correct?

Re: Battle.net help please!!!

try with a lower case c

looks like they changed it, now its case sensitive

Same result, unfortunately.

Does it make a difference that I'm running the command prompt as an administrator?

Should I try turning the ports off and doing it?

thanks for your help so far!

Re: Battle.net help please!!!

-sigh- Still nothing. Any idea what could be blocking it?

I've opened and closed that port many times now

Re: Battle.net help please!!!

can any pcs on your lan connect to bnet?

if not try bypassing your router (plug the lan cable from the modem directly into a pc)

Re: Battle.net help please!!!

Nope. Neither my laptop nor desktop can connect to bnet when i bypass the router.

I don't know if it means anything, but my router is my modem. It's a modem/router combo. It's a 2-Wire 3800 HGV-B

Re: Battle.net help please!!!

Do you know if it's possible to turn on bridging mode for the modem? This would essentially disable the router portion of it, but only allow one system to connect.

Re: Battle.net help please!!!

I finally got a response back from Battle.net tech support. Apparently a 2week restriction was placed on my account the moment I installed it because I entered in 3 invalid Diablo 2 cdkeys before I finally was able to read my scribble from 2 years ago.

I'm able to play in Single Player and the TGI/IP mode. Looks like I'm going to have to wait 11 more days to be able to play.

LOL

Thank you to ffejrxx, and others, for all your help. :)

I fail. xD
