Re: The Certain Death Tournament.
Durance of Hate was good for rune finds - two Shaels and an Amn.
Scary sight on Durance 3: Conviction Bremm Sparkfist. But as luck would have it, I got all three of the minions back to the first room without Bremm. Dim them, and they were easy kills for Iantha. Spraky himself wasn´t so bad, as I kept the distance from him, and him Decrepified.
It got a little hairy when I tried to arrange the moat trick poistions vs Mephisto. He followed us back and I had to doulbe back and out again. But eventually, I managed. It took us around 30 minutes to whittle down Mephisto. When Morte´s mana had returned to almost full, he´d empty it with 6-7 Bone Spirits. Constant Amping as well. Nothing cool in his drop.
When Act IV started, I realized that this is going to take a long time. I drew the three biggest monster types, Venom Lords, Corpulents and Flesh Spawners. I went back to Act II and bought Balanced Knives of Vileness from Fara. I felt a need for this because Morte´s poison only lasts 3 seconds and besides, the Venom Lords are poison immune. I used these daggers on almost every monster on the Steppes. When I had cleared the perimeter and about 1/3 of the rest, my whole computer froze. Bummer. I figured I would gain too much XP if I were to clear the Steppes again (after all, I think I had killed all the boss packs) so I simply gave up the remaining wealth/items.
Plains of Despair meant much faster killing, because the monsters were less sturdy. I did get Corpulents again, but this time along with Doom Casters and Burning Souls. I had brought two special tools to speed up the Izual fight: newly crafted Blood gloves and a 'Strength' Flail. The plan was to use Bone Prison and hit Izzy from outside it. Turns out his range was just as good as mine. But with Thawing potions help, Decrepify and Bone Armor, he was not so painful to tank. Even on /p8, it was a reasonably quick fight.
Things were going pretty well, until the last stretch of the perimeter clearance. Iantha was shooting at a Dimmed Soul, and I moved a bit to move her so she wouldn´t fire into pillars so much. I knew I was entering "new" territory, and I was prepared to move sideways to dodge lightning shots from Souls. A pack of 3-4 showed up, and I think I dodged all but one of those shots. However, I had not noticed another Soul pack (3-4) that I apparently had woken up at the same time. They were in the direction my dodge move took me, so I got hit by all their initial shots. Turns out it was at least one shot too much for Morte´s 335 life and 50% resistance.
Oops.
(Btw, this is the first time I´ve died in Act IV since v1.09 was the current patch!)

GL to all of you with characters still standing. I am extremely impressed by those who have made it to Hell difficulty. I mean, Act V NM is no picknick even for strong non-wacky characters.
I wish I had made it there, becuase I think the ranged attackers and large open spaces would have suited us fine. Also, there would have been lots of chances to improve Iantha´s gear there. She was never quite "flying", if you know what I mean. My HF rune would have been very interesting. A Lem and I could´ve made Trachery for her, an Um and I could´ve made Duress. And at level 74, it would have been time to imbue Elite bows.
I need a D2 break for some time now. I am not sure if I am going to reenter this tourney, because I am not at all comfortable with low-life characters. If I do re-enter, I will play a Berserker Barbarian with Defiance merc. Just because Morathi doesn´t think it will work...
