Imbue question (low level eth war javs)

Hey guys, I did some poking around through the stickies and search tool, and found some useful info, but I want to make sure I understand it to optimize my imbues.

I'm looking to imbue some eth war javs for a level 21 thrower, in hopes of an ed/repair set.

My question is, what ilvl javs should I be looking for (I know ilvl=monster level, so I could pretty easily figure out where to be looking for them), and at what character level should I be using my imbue quests?

The ilvl of the item isn't important for the imbue, because after the imbuing process it'll have an ilvl equal to your clvl + 4. In other words, you could find a javelin from Hell Baal and imbue it with a clvl 7 character, and get an ilvl 11 item.

The affixes you probably want are:

Enhanced Damage:
Massive (51% to 65% enhanced Damage, alvl 20, clvl 15)
Savage (66% to 80% enhanced Damage, alvl 26, clvl 19)

Replenish Quantity:
of Replenishing (alvl 5, clvl 3)
of Propogation (alvl 24, clvl 18)

So ideally the alvl of the item needs to be at most 26, but not higher otherwise you'll start to get affixes that have a clvl req greater than 21. In order for that to happen, the ilvl of the item will need to be 41, so you'll need to imbue the javelin's with a clvl 37 character:

if (41<(99-30/2))
then {alvl=41-30/2} = 41-15 = 26

kind of OT and noob, but does ETH spawn on imbues ever?

If you imbue an ethereal item, it'll stay ethereal. If you imbue a non eth, it'll stay non eth. Etherealness doesn't "spawn" on imbues.

Right, very good! So would it hurt to imbue with a character much lower than 37, or is my chance of getting the affixes I want going to be significantly lower if I do that? I obviously won't be going and imbuing with a level 5 or anything, but how crucial is 37 vs say, 25, 30 or 35?

Well, if you imbue with a character who's clvl is less than 37 then the resulting item will not get alvl 26, which means you can't get the "Savage" prefix. If you imbue with a clvl less than 35 then you won't be able to get the "of Propogation" suffix.

So it'll boil down to what affixes you're willing to settle for. If an ethereal Massive (65% ED) War Javelin of Replenishing is sufficient, then you can go as low as clvl 31 (for ilvl 35, alvl 20). If the only thing that matters is getting the "of Replenishing" suffix, and you're willing to put up with a max of 50% ED (Brutal prefix) then any clvl will work.
