When is Energy Shield canceled?

Hey people,
When exactly is energy shield turned off(other than timer expiring)? is it immediately when a mana burn monster attacks you or does it take several hits? Can non-manaburn monsters ever take it off? Tried testing it but came to no clear conclusions.
Also, does it work differently with magic attackers?

In theory ES goes down when you have no mana. But usually ES sorc have a huge mana pool and Mana regeneration that allows to keep ES up even after a total mana burn as you regen a bit mana that keeps ES up.
I have a melee Enchantress with ES and this happens often.

IFAIK magic attacks are no diferent from physical attacks relating to ES absotb mechanisms.

In theory ES goes down when you have no mana.

Perhaps the check is in the next frame so you may have regened some mana in time to keep es up? That would be my guess.
