Fireface recovered Khalim's Heart and is about ready to hit LK for a bit. The Hurricane should allow me to run through LK-UK and the sewers quite easily, even at L22. I hit level 61 in the Horadric Staff room, and fought Duriel w/o my merc for most of the time, just recast L12 Grizzly and L20 HotW while plunking away w/Buriza. The Eth rune in the xbow makes a big difference, though Duriel's massive cold resist made the battle take a long time as Hurricane was ineffective. Considering a Life Tap charge wand on switch for boss battles and upping my AP with some more Steel charms.

Dio the Hammerdin went back to NM to kill Nilthi and get his eth Rose Branded shield repaired with the personalization quest--Anya wouldn't do it! Grr, I'm down to 4 durability on the shield, and 4 levels away from the +2 Paladin Skills Gothic Shield I have stashed. Looks like a few more NM cow runs. I'm going to be using Smite more often against bosses to check it out. The merc is very vulerable with my second-string questing gear: RAlOrtSol in Gothic plate, 25% LR/24 PDR tiara, and Kelpie Snare. Might + Concentration allow him to do some good damage, but he's too low in level to get away with garbage gear.

Judas_Priestess ran LK for a load of Balrog Blades, still haven't found another eth one. Did get 2 4os ones, I may make a Kingslayer in one eventually, and a +6% ED 3os one may become Lawbringer. There's a weird rack that always drops Elites after the Balrog Blade, but it varies between Shako, Colossal Girdle and Mithril Coil. I think I figured out how to make it drop Shako, so I may be posting about my hax Harlequin Crest in a month or so. I did craft a +31 MPK/+4 dex ring with the cold recipe, so I'll probably be picking up my Bone Spear/Spirit necro again soon.

Since I only have casters left to quest through the game, I'm thinking of starting a FC/Maul Werebear--any suggestions?

I was just about to upgrade my 1.11b to 1.12a, but noticed one funny thing. My LoD discs have 1.07 version, so guess, did I upgrade? :whistling:

lvl3 Sorc and Den is cleared. Gotta read more about 1.07, but I know I'll start with that Static Field/Frozen Orb Sorceress.

I have two crafting ideas that haven't panned out the way I thought yet- both rely upon getting magic-only socketing prefixes on armor.

Idea #1: Get a good crafted shield with the Jeweler's prefix for use as a 4-socket shield, to be filled with Sol's or facets as builds require in 1.12. The idea is to do better than the typical Jeweler's Monarch of Deflecting, and hopefully get some other nice mods along the way. The two 1.07 shield crafts are Caster with a Luna, which is useless since Lunas can only get 2 sockets, and Blood with an Aegis. The strength requirement for an Aegis is higher than a Monarch but I figured it was worth a few tries. Jeweler's with deflecting and -requirements would be fantastic. So far, I haven't seen any socketing prefixes of any kind come out of that, though- has anyone ever seen that? The recipe isn't cheap and before I put more Hel's to use, I was wondering if this is a good plan.

2) In a similar vein, I've been trying to get some good PDR body armor, and I've done a lot of safety body crafts (mostly lesser but some greater ones as well.) I haven't seen socketing prefixes on any of those crafts either. But I did get one absolutely great craft so far, and had the good luck to get 3 sockets from Larzuk:

Corpse Shell, Great Hauberk, lev req 57
39%ED
Damage reduced by 25, MDR 7
LR 30%, FHR 24%, requirements -30%

That must have gotten Amicae (8-15) and good rolls on both that and the built-in PDR from the craft (6-15.) Filled with Sols that will give 46 PDR in just the armor, a ton of progress for just one item towards a good PDR build in 1.12 when I get back there. I can't wait to use it- first plan is for a melee sorc with ES.

I'm wondering if the Jeweler's prefix can spawn on crafts. My understanding is that it should be able to but I haven't actually seen it yet. It may be an ilvl/alvl issue, I'm not sure. I have definitely seen some magic-only affixes ("indestructible", the "amicae" above) but I think those are all suffixes. Is it definitely the case that both magic-only prefixes and suffixes can spawn on crafts?

I wouldn't bother with this since Rhyme/Splendor are so easy to build in future patches and 1.07 blocking is pretty poor outside of Paladins who already have good, easy to find shields. And the STR and level requirements are prohibited. I only look at 1.07 shields for +Paladin skills and resistances.

That armor is awesome! Good luck with Larzuk--he gave my 23% LL crafted Colossus Sword 3 sockets to go with the Grandmasters + Savage prefixes it already had, so hopefully he'll keep up his generous streak. PDR is pretty sweet in 1.07, so that would make a great armor for a merc or melee character until you bring it forward. I'm happy with 38 PDR on my Might merc in hell, so this Hauberk is pretty amazing.

Well, my girlfriend was out of town Friday through Sunday, so my D2 characters got some attention.

Klaatu_Barata the Bone/Golem necro is advancing nicely. Iron Golem is a lot of fun in early NM, and it gives me a good use for all the marginal weapons my characters find. Though I was foolish and made one out of an eth Partizan--should have brought it forward for an Insight. Bone Spirit vs. Bone Spear is a tricky question, and I'm not sure which I will end up investing in. I think I'll max Iron Golem first and then Bone Spirit, because I'll certainly need something to kill Baal and the Ancients with from a safe position. I'm also going to go with max block on him as I found a Viceratuant which is pretty strong.

Fireface, the hunter/hurricane druid is at the mouth of the ice caves in Hell act 5. Meph was a huge pain, and I died a couple of times. My merc was worthless in A3, but got into Diablo's sweet spot just under the lightning hose, so he made up for it. Buriza with the Eth rune really helped against both bosses, carrying CB and significant damage. Terrible drops from both, but HF gave mea Po (Io). A +3 summons/+21 dex circlet replaced the +3/+30 life pelt, helping Buriza and Geirke's noticably. I went back to blood gloves with some +STR so I could rearrainge my charms and get a 118 AR Steel charm on; so far, so good. The small adjustments really pay off, as the gloves + circlet helped me get through Meph and tear up Act 4.

S_words the GF Frenzy barb gained a level, so I was able to strip some +STR SCs (and pass them on to the druid) and add more GF. He horked Ko, Shae(l), and Amn from one Council run and is currently financing the Federal Reserve with all the gold he's collected. Biggest pile was about 24k with ~400% GF. I rerolled my LK map after personalizing his hat in normal, and got a great map with 6 chests and 8-10 racks. Nothing spectacular, but he'll likely be feeding the necro with iron golem weapons. I'm realizing that I way overspent on Dex, but he's still got 2600+ life at L77 so I'm not paying for it too dearly.

Trippity_Trap the LS/DS/SM assassin is about to take on Diablo at L24. I actually like CB Sentry better than LS, but pounding monsters with Civerb's Cudgel and max block Sigon's shield is pretty good so far. Once I hit L45 she'll be amazing/not so fun to play. I'm going to try out the kick skills through NM, but I'll probably end up with a Lower Resist wand on switch in Hell or +3 Shadow skills claws for MB.

If the trapsin is a little dull, Dio the hammerdin is a total bore. Utterly overpowered in the open, boring as all get out in The Maggot Lair. I had about 20 left over skill points, so I invested in Conviction and took Coldkill to the bugs. AR wasn't an issue with L18 Conviction and the cold damage was great. I'd also tried Heartcarver w/Holy Freeze, but it doesn't add cold damage in 1.07 and at level 60 I was still missing monsters and/or not doing enough damage. He's in the Canyon of the Magi, dreading the Greater Mummies he'll have to push through to get to Duriel. The Merc is a decent help, but too low of a level to do much good with his Kelpie Snare. I'll probably level him in the Arcane Sanctuary for a bit. Fist of the Heavens is pretty wretched--the casting delay is awful and the damage is negligible. I'm not going to be able to add enough points to it for it to matter either, as Conviction is a better investment in dealing with the few magic immunes and tight places I'll have to Zeal through.

Not many remarkable finds, as I didn't run my Balrog Blade/Shako LK map with the amazon very much. Questing was a lot more fun. I plan on Patting the druid this weekend, and the hammerdin by the end of November.

Hi all, I've stepped through the time portal as well and in this strange time was wondering what's the best way to get some crafting runes in 1.07? I found only one Ith and one Po rune (interested in safety armor crafts) and have done a good amount of Hell LK runs. Is there a better way? Does countess in 1.07 have working rune special drop?

For Orts and fals(blood weapon) i found rushing the best.You get 2x ort from each rushee from set and chance for some other good runes from hellforge(NM and normal,hell i leave for 1.12 usually).You also get a lot of gems.If you don't like rushing you can do cows with several players in game(modified .dll needed and chars have to be in hell if you want hell cows),council or lk chests.Those are the best, but cows and rushing are head above others imo.
And about the countess question:no.

Hi all, I've stepped through the time portal as well and in this strange time was wondering what's the best way to get some crafting runes in 1.07? I found only one Ith and one Po rune (interested in safety armor crafts) and have done a good amount of Hell LK runs. Is there a better way? Does countess in 1.07 have working rune special drop?

Aside from HF rushing, area clears--Cows and A4 with 0% MF will drop crafting runes and jewels. Council runs with a GF barb aren't horrible (see above).

Actualy NM council might be good aswell. Next to decent runedroppage they also drop alot of jewels and charms. And they are EZ kill in Nm.

MF doesn't effect rune drops afaik.

Right, so you want 0 in favor of not getting magic items and in favor of replacing MF gear with speed killing gear.

NM LK can also rack Skulder's Ire and some other desireable exceptionals, so that is a decent consideration for running NM A3 areas, but you'll want a level78-91 character for crafting Blood recipies and shopping A5 for base weapons/armors. ilvl affects crafts, but not from jewels or runes (obviously). It's also a good idea to go to Hell to get Jeweler's armors with good sufficies like Amicae and Whale and whatnot.

If you really want to do a lot of Blood Crafts, consider a Holy Fire Paladin to farm rubies and Tirs in Normal, and a GF Barb to hork runes off cows or council in Hell as well as purchase base items. WW or Frenzy with maxed BO and decent War Cry should be safe enough for the barb, but WW might be more cost efficient with agood polearm than Frenzy: 2 good weapons can easily cost 100k to repair every two runs (grumble grumble crafted berseker axes grumble grumble).

Too bad Q-K doesn't give Iths for his freed soldiers :D I'll probably stick to LK and racking for now as I don't have any good weapons for GF barb (for farming travincal) and cows bore me to death. But I have managed to level my sorceress to 78 today so she should be able to do some nice crafts as soon as I find those runes. Thanks for all the answers!

Well, after 2-3 months, I'm getting back to D2. More specifically, to 1.07. I don't really want to, but the voices tell me to. D2 is installing as we speak.

When I left off, I had done about a thousand unsuccesful runs on a Collossus Blade rack for a Grandfather. I can't believe I'm going to do this again... Damn, I have issues.

Any news from the 1.07 front?

Hah, I finally got a Grandfather! Total runs would be about 1100 runs.

Would it be worth for a Vitabarb to get a second Grandfather? I already had a chat about that with Galtwish, and he made a good point about its strength requirement being probably too high. However, I just looked up the strength requirement for a Arkaine's Valor and it's 165. The 24 strength difference doesn't seem to matter that much. However, it DOES still have a dexterity requirement of 110...

Also, what are good places to level your character? I'd like to level my char from 77 to 81, so my merc can use the Grandfather for now.

EDIT: would it also be worth it to try and get an ethereal superior Collossus Blade for ethereal bugging in 1.10+?

I'd like to now that as well. Hell cows were giving great experience until lvl 76, then it suddenly slowed down from more then one level per run to 3 or more runs for a level(I usually played with 2 mules in game).

Oh and one more thing, did anyone noticed a strange lag in cow level? I have cows "teleporting" on me and landing a hit even though I saw them at a safe distance a moment ago...

Leveling in Nihli's Temple is generally pretty good. I just hit 85 with my strafer and she' snow making more exp per kill than she was at 84, so I've yet to hit diminishing returns. If you have FO or WW, Cows may be more time efficient. I play at p1, though, so your results may differ.

You can't ebug weapons, iirc. That only works for armors. All 1.07 eth weapons get the extra 50% bonus.

About the Grandfather--my comment was that you are placing so many stat points into STR and DEX that the VIT is a bit anemic to get a huge life pool. Though if you are planning it for a Wolfbarb...

I got fed up with my L69 druid dying to Hell Ancients, so I cubed a bunch of stuff in 1.11 this weekend. Made Peace and Myth in Mage Plates, rolled 4os in 2 Monarchs, 1 AP, and an eth Scarab Husk (hoping for 2 to make Smoke for a merc armor), and got frustrated with myself for brings a bunch of superior eth polearms from 1.07 to 1.11. I'll be making Honor and Malice in eth Colossus Sword and eth superior Halberd shortly as I won't be getting the runes for Death anytime soon. I have 4 eth Balrog Blades, so I'll be looking to make Oath once I get a Mal. So for all of you racking 1.07 eth goodies, keep the faith! It's fun when they pay off, and there is very little reason to keep non-socketed armors in 1.07.

And just to confirm: if anyone had any doubts about 1.07 Raven Claw being as hax as 1.09, believe the hype. I strapped one on my burgeoning LF zon in 1.11 and at P8 it's a 1-2 hit kill for just about everything in a 3 yard radius in Normal. My merc was running around trying to fond something to do--even the Maggot Lair was fun! Watch out for beetle bolts though; they all get hit by the splash damage and the ground is nearly invisible under the carpet of Charged Bolts.

I'll probably be back to 1.07 by the weekend as I think I've figured out how to keep the save character file happy without having to reinstall every time I go back to 1.07. I'm not the most technically savvy D2 player-- I just figured out how to use stashes in ATMA :doh:

Yeah, I didn't quite say that right. What I meant was to make it indestructable by making Death in it and then remove the runes. An ethereal superior Grief Collossus Blade and (I believe) with another ethereal bonus to the maximum damage sounds quite good to me.

I was figuring the best way to get hit points would be an Arkaine's Valor, as I haven't seen any armor with such an enormous amount of bonus to life. Then again, perhaps a simple light armor of the Whale (= BO-able) would still do better on a Barbarian.

Hello guys.
Question about rolling racks w/ minions.
F.e., I make map with Sash armor stand. Okay, making new map w/ using Valkyrie gives me Barlog Skin.
I must every time make Valk after create game, or new "Barlog skin stand" is fixed?

Another q... What about CbF ability on itmz without using ATMA? It work correct and don't damage saves?

Don't forget, that BO works only with base vita, +vita & +life mods. Not for +"vita/life based on character lvl" or "increase maximum life %".
And, as I know, 1.07 dual wielding don't work correct with WhirlWind.

About exp'ing. Good locations for melee characters are Crystalline Passage->...->The Ancients' Way.
Especially icy monsters.
Just watch, how many exp give you some type of mob.

Single playing(without mules) is okay, right?
This is problem with TCP/IP gaming. May be wrong LAN settings.
