Copying my disc to my computer?

I used to be able to play Diablo 2 without the CD. I had problems with my cd-rom so I used a program and was able to play the game without the cd in the cd-rom. My cd-rom is extremely loud and annoying. I'd like to do the same thing about, but I can't find something to use that did what I did before. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of such a program. That is, assuming I'm not breaking any rules by asking this. If I am, I did not know and this can be disregarded.

Re: Copying my disc to my computer?

Assuming the program you're using is a third party program, which I'm guessing it is, it's against the rules to talk about it here. You should have known, since you should've read the rules for the forums before posting, right?
Feigning ignorance won't get you too far.

But as for actual programs that you can use, I'm not too sure about any legit ones, as Blizzard hasn't released anything close to a patch that lets the game run without a CD.

Re: Copying my disc to my computer?

is it just me or does it seem like every other new guy is asking for hacks or editors?

Re: Copying my disc to my computer?

My intentions are 100% legit. I'm not trying to use a hacked CD-key. I'm not trying to run multiple copies of the game on multiple machines. I just don't like hearing my cd-rom blare at me while I'm playing the game. It detracts from my enjoyment of it. It may be against the rules that I asked about this and I apologize, but just because it's against the rules, doesn't mean that I was trying to cheat or hack the game.

Re: Copying my disc to my computer?

It's probably something to do with your CD drive on your computer. Does it happen with any other CDs when you're running crap off it? If not, then it might just be your Diablo CD, and you should think of investing in another disc.

Re: Copying my disc to my computer?

all right, it is as old as the LotD expansion seeing as i bought it when it came out, perhaps it's run it's course. :-)

Re: Copying my disc to my computer?

You can make an image of your cd and load it with some virtual disk manager such as Daemon tools if you don't have a working cd drive. I wouldn't recommend using some 3rd party game altering softwares for such purpose.

Re: Copying my disc to my computer?

My CD-Rom starts randomly winding up as well during D2 playtime. It would be more annoying if I didn't play with headphones. I suggest you use some, if you get annoyed by noise.

Re: Copying my disc to my computer?

copy all of the mpq files from the cd's to your d2 install folder, then take out the cd after you start the game

Sometimes I quietly applaud for the holier than thou -thing that's always going on in here. I mean sure, being against bots and whatnot is all cool, but attacking someone with a taser when they accidentially ask if Internet Explorer comes with Windows is pretty lawl. "HAMAGADZ THIRD PARRRTEH PROGRAMZ!"

or maybe we are just sick of all the nubs whining that they can't get their maphack or editor to work or begging for a copy of a no cd crack...it does get old.

Whereas his description lead, at least me, to believe that used to mount an image of his cd, which is perfectly legal as long as you create the image out of your own, store bought software, and dont distribute it.:soapbox:

Re: Copying my disc to my computer?

Noob or Not, I empathize with sterces. I mean I've play D2 for years, I dont use or advocate any of the hack's, cracks or what have you. Not only againt Blizzards rules but I believe thats a possible way of being hacked yourself, plus it takes alot of fun outof the game IMHO. Regardless.. I can see how annoying it can be having to occupy your CD-Rom. The problem is that since there are, I'm sure, vast numbers of people who want to this this, and thus decide to turn to the 3rd party stuff, hence, the ones following the rules are suffer the inconvenience. The Unnecessary Inconvenience.

sterces48 you have my sympathy.
