4 socket shields

I read about a runeword the other day, Spirit. I wanna make one but I've only found up to 3 socket shields so far. Which ones can have 4 sockets and where do I find them? How much str do they req? I got about 100 str, is it possible to make spirit?

Re: 4 socket shields

Hello bassen!

All Paladin shields can get 4 sockets, but there are only few non-Paladin shields that can get 4 sockets, namely:
Monarch (156 STR), Aegis (219 STR) and Ward (185 STR). You understand most people use the Monarch.

Readouts of my Spirit Monarch:
Code:
Spirit
Monarch
'TalThulOrtAmn'
Defense: 147
Chance to Block: 42%
Smite Damage: 12 to 34
Durability: 86 of 86
Required Strength: 156
Required Level: 54
Item Version: 1.10+ Expansion
Item Level: 86
Fingerprint: 0xc812db2b
+22 to Vitality
+89 to Mana
+250 Defense vs. Missile
Lightning Resist +35%
Cold Resist +35%
Poison Resist +35%
Attacker Takes Damage of 14
55% Faster Hit Recovery
34% Faster Cast Rate
+2 to All Skill Levels
+3 Magic Absorb
Socketed (4: 4 used)

Re: 4 socket shields

Monarchs can drop all over hell, the other two are much more rare, but hardly worth it due to the high reqs.

Re: 4 socket shields

Hi bassen,

If I remember correctly, you can only get 4 sockets on paladin shields and a few others.

For a monarch, it requires 156 strength (the lowest str req). Pally shields vary of course. :)

edit: beaten by just about everyone! Lol...

Re: 4 socket shields

Also worth adding that the first time you will see a 4os Paladin Shield is Nightmare difficulty.
4os Monarchs are available in Hell (possibly late NM but I'm not sure), The Pits is probably the best place to look.

True for drops and vendors, but you can Larzuk or cube four sockets into paladin shields from normal (lvl 25+, according to dii.net's socket list).

Here is were I lack of english. Hmm Larzuk can make normal shields from paladin shields or vice versa?

Can you make runewords in self-socketed shields?

However it seems like I have to boost my str. Luckily I got Jalals ^^

Re: 4 socket shields

You can give Larzuk a normal paladin-only shield and he'll give you the same base shield back with sockets in. The base item type will not change.

You can use Larzuk to put sockets into an item (or use a Horiadric Cube recipe) and then make a runeword in it. Note that the usual rules apply - only items with grey names can be used to make a runeword.

Re: 4 socket shields

What Muzz said was:

"In normal difficulty it is still possible to get a 4 socket paladin shield, by getting Larzuk to do it, using the socket quest in act 5."

You can make runewords in all shields that are grey items.

Nothing can change a paladin shield into a "normal" shield.

Re: 4 socket shields

Larzuk's socket reward can add sockets to a shield (any shield). Keep in mind that you must use a regular white item (one that is not magical, etc) to get maximum sockets.

For the quote:

Larzuk can socket a Paladin-only shield with four holes from Normal difficulty (which have an item level of 25+). Thus, you can get a Paladin shield with four open sockets in Normal difficulty.
However, it sounds like you're a Druid, so paladin shields won't help.

Runewords can be made in any item that is 'normal' (ie: a grey item; not a magical/rare/unique item) that is of the right base item type, and has the correct number of sockets.

I hope that makes it a bit clearer. Your english is very good by the way! I didn't think it was a secondary language to you.

Edit: pwned twice.

Yes, I'm a druid. I just checked how much STR which is 110 with Jalas Mane equiped. So making that kind of runeword will take me years since I only put 1 into str each level and 4 into vitality. I'm level 81 now. The reason I want Spirit is that it gives me a good boost of resistance and +skills. But I better try find some other shield or socket my Lidless Wall with 1 socket and put a perfect diamond in it (got 4). I was stupid enough not to look up if I could use such a shield. Or I could just use my moser shield which I socketed with 1 perfect diamod and 1 flawless diamond. But moser won't give any +skills which is exactly what I need. Thx for the help, I've learned how Larzuks socketing works better.

Thank you all :flowers:

Re: 4 socket shields

For the strength, there are some things you can do to help yourself. I'm not sure what items you have available, but Grand Charms can have +6 str while Large charms can have +5. Handy if you have the space.
IK Belt has +25 strength, a couple of unique boots grant +10 strength, Mahim-Oak gives +10. Have a look at some item slots that may need an upgrade (or don't have good stats,) and see if there is something there you could add for strength.
My sorc was level 86 before I realised I wanted 156 strength for a Monarch. And she still has a few levels left before she'll be able to wield it without tweaking her items.

Re: 4 socket shields

For +STR the armor 'Lionheart' would be a good option as well, and is an excellent all around armor. I believe the runes are HelLumFal, but I might be confusing it with something else. It gives +25 or 30 STR along with a lot of resists (35 or so?).

Re: 4 socket shields

Lionheart
Embossed Plate
'HelLumFal'
Defense: 290
Durability: 49 of 55
Required Strength: 106
Required Level: 41
Item Version: 1.10+ Expansion
Item Level: 62
Fingerprint: 0xdfda1246
+25 to Strength
+10 to Energy
+15 to Dexterity
+20 to Vitality
+50 to Life
+20% Enhanced Damage
All Resistances +30
Requirements -15%
Socketed (3: 3 used)

And the -15% requirements lets you put it in various armours without much problem. An embossed plate is not the greatest, but as it has no ED%, I figure the build isn't defensive and doesn't need it.

Re: 4 socket shields

Also make sure you have RWM installed, otherwise the result will be much less impressive. I'm better stating the obvious, so you don't end up like.. looking at your shiny new gemmed monarch.

If he does that, then installs RWM and plays that character, the runeword will be activated, provided the runeword was otherwise correct.

Re: 4 socket shields

No. Unique, set and rare items only get 1 socket from Larzuk. Magic items have a 50/50 chance to get 1 or 2.
