Got any crushing blow? My ama puts on a gface for baal and just GAs from around a pillar. Every time tentacles are used she runs to a different pillar straight away. GA prefers to target baal than the tentacles so you can shoot baal quite reliably from off screen. If the clone is summoned, run to the furthest corner of the chamber and wait a few seconds so clone dissapears. I have lots of frw which helps, around 110 when I take off my frw circlet, and the poison damage on my bow (about 920/9 secs) does what CB can't.

Hawkmail is pretty rubbish, it's generally slower than a light armour because scale armour has the highest movement penalty. Just go without cbf imo, you shouldn't need it. I doubt you can a merc alive for more than 5 seconds.


Are people maxing shout+BO on their 1.07 barbs? The duration combined with the way your current life doesn't increase just your max is really irritating, it seems like it'll take a while to pay off.

Thanks for the tips guys. Looks like I'll strap on Rattlecage (no Guillame's) and Natalya's Soul, add some +dmg and FR/W charms and give it another shot. I've got 14% CB from the gloves, but another 25% should help. I was concerned about the frost wave and the flame ring, but neither are too terribly damaging and I don't want to be close enough for the to need the FHR I've got vs. manaflame.

It's a shame it only comes with 1os. If I Shael it, it'd be 8 frames, can it still be a decent spear WW Barb?
Nice find. I always hoped for an ethereal one of those for obvious reasons. But the +damage is bugged and doesn't work and it would be two BPs off the fastest WW speed. CB counts for a LOT in 1.07, so you could certainly mop up the council fairly quickly with that + Guillaume's + greater blood gloves. I dunno... you could certainly do a lot worse.

@yiuman: Thanks for posting the real info. It was the 3 sockets on the bone shield that was throwing me off.

@galtwish: forget FHR on a 'zon against Baal. It's an all-or-nothing deal where you aspire to hit 4-frames or don't. Given that a 'zon needs 174% for 4-frame hit recovery, it's probably better to load up on +life and hope not to go into recovery in the first place, although that seems unlikely given the amount of damage the corkscrew o' doom is capable of.

Guided Arrow all the way in my opinion, FRW as phool suggests, and just stay as far away as possible while still twanging. The more crushing blow you have the faster he dies... period. If you have this stuff, use Goblin Toe AND Rattlecage AND crafted blood gloves, get FRW from circlet, Mav's belt and Highlord's or The Cat's Eye. The autohit feature of GA is also extremely helpful.

Edit: After reflection, I don't think you can get enough life to avoid going into hit-recovery. If the mana-burn attack hits your 'zon, you're dead.

I just find it funny/rediculous that I have to completely regear my character that handled the Ancients, Diablo (slowly), Meph, Duriel, and Andy in Hell + Baal in NM w/o an NDE. I've been using GSA since A2 NM and the "Death" bow since A4 NM while upgrading my armor throughout. Baal is certainly not a puppy in 1.07.

Edit: After reflection, I don't think you can get enough life to avoid going into hit-recovery. If the mana-burn attack hits your 'zon, you're dead.
You can however get more than 2200 life, which should leave you alive with just a few HPs left, and you might even be fast enogh to gulp a rejuv.
Interesting. And the belt must have a very low qlvl, what level are you crafting with?
My sorc is now lvl 81. I'm not sure if I want to go higher (raven frost and dwarf star becomes available with the ring recipes, reducing the SoJ odds from 1:31k to 1:51k....) however, a real man crafts at lvl 91 so I'll probably just bite the pain and level....

Yes she can and she has the best odds for it (1 in 483 with 556%MF). Meph has lower odds, (1 in 916 with 556%MF) but can also drop Maras which Andy can't.

@Galtwish: I think DNT had it right the first time - if the mana-burn attack hits your zon, she's dead. Even if she has 3k+ life, without a 4 frame recovery Baals manaburn is a OHKO (according to RTB and he is very rarely wrong). You could get enough FHR (I think) 23x 5% small FHR charms+bloodfist+Guilarms (or possibly an armor with FHR if you've got one, Arkaines would be good, but I doubt you've got one and you'd need another 10 levels to use it - or you could shael the Guilarms if you haven't already socketed it for another 20FHR and only use 19 charms, or you could use the shael add two more 5% charms and put the crafted gloves back on etc). This could work, although it doesn't leave much room for +life or damage.

Another tip for you is you might want to think about a 1pt jab (if you have the skill point to spare and enough AR from Penetrate) as I've noticed that Baal casts his MB attack a lot less when you go toe to toe with him. Of course, if he does use it, you are toast. Jab should put out the CB pretty quickly (and IMHO the best way to deal with Hell Baal is quickly). Otherwise, an amulet/circlet of teleport may help (although beware that zon's have a terrible cast speed with no FCR) to get you out of harms way quickly. Don't forget to get CB on your merc too - you may want to think about a Hell Act V merc as they are generally pretty sturdy and you wouldn't have to level him up.

That setup you've listed looks pretty good, although I'd put a Vamp Gaze ahead of Tal's mask if you've got one.

@Phool: I maxed BO but not shout on my frenzy barb and don't regret it at all. The duration (at about level 27) is about 3 minutes. Once I got into the swing of casting it that often, I hardly even notice the shorter duration - just be sure to refresh it before a tough fight. I do agree that the not filling up the bulbs is annoying, but again when you are used to it, you just pop a rejuv and you are good to go (and if you don't let it end you don't even have to pop the rejuv).

@Helvete: Great crafting! I didn't think it would be possible to get +3 skills on the vambraces and with a level 80 toon as well (if my maths is right)! I've never been so happy to be wrong. I'm going to start crafting as soon as I find some magic vambraces..... I'm still not so convinced about the belts as in my mind, to make crafting worth while, it should offer something that beats most set/unique/runewords (+skills on gloves etc). Don't get me wrong - you could create some awesome belts with lots of life/str/resists etc, but the set/unique belts seem 9 times out of 10 to offer something extra that you just can't get on a craft- the pierce from Razortail (obviously not in 1.07), the lit absorb etc of TGods (again not in 1.07), the PDR from the String of Ears, the FRW on Mavs, MF on Tals/Goldwrap etc that for most builds a set/unique would be more useful. Of course a craft would have the style factor.....

@DNT: No problem about reposting the info - I just feel dumb for getting it wrong in the first place. I usually try and check things like that before I post them, but that one slipped through the net.

On a different note, does anyone know which shields can get 3 or 4 sockets in 1.07? Thanks.

And about belts, crafted ones offer up to 125 life + open wounds, so that's a winner for a lot of melee builds, especially in 1.10+ where %DR is capped at 50% instead of 75%. Gaze, shaftstop and a 125/30/24 10OW 30% single res.... droool!

The gear I listed is my best stuff. I'll give it a shot this weekend and if it doesn't work, level up to get a skill point for Jab and dust off one of the 40 javelins I have in a stash and smash Ball with that. Adding a bunch of +skills stuff will help my D/A/E, Valk, and Decoy as well so the melee is a decent option.

I completely forgot about the OW - that makes a big difference. I still think it would need to be almost a perfect craft to beat the set/uniques, but you've convinced me that its possible to at least get a craft that matches the set/uniques and for some builds might beat them.

About the qlvl/ilvl/alvl thing - I don't think it is quite as simple as qlvl=alvl (at least it isn't in 1.09+; under certain conditions qlvl is used as ilvl but it then undergoes some calculations to find the alvl). If it is in 1.07 that would be pretty damn cool as it would make some high affixes relatively easily available (grandmasters, 40FRW and +3 skills spring to mind). I really wish someone would crack the code for crafting in 1.07 (RTB - anyone?)....

@Galtwish: Good luck. Think of it this way - at least you are SC so if he pwns you a few times, its not so bad.

Been racking for hours, had a really 9/10 shakos rack that just dropped a goldwrap -.- I've also been trying to find a thresher rack, I've gone through over 150 weapon racks with no sighting. Can anyone confirm whether threshers can drop from racks? (btw if anyone has an eth 0 or 4 sox thresher and wants to trade lmk!)

Jab seems certain and repeated death. The massive level difference will mean that unless you have dual angelic you probably won't have more than 60, 65% cth. guided is a lot safer and probably faster imo.

Can anyone tell me if the atma dropcalculator is accurate considering 1.07? I've ran hell mephy for 100 times now and still have not seen any exceptional armor.

Its not. Bosses are bugged in 1.07 that they can only drop from TC40 (IIRC) and below. The drop calculator doesn't reflect this. Unfortunately this means that they drop mostly normal items with a few very rare exceptionals.

I'm trying to sort out the modified d2gfx for running multiple of instances of 1.07 as leveling past , has anyone done this? I have zero experience with hex editors, or anything like that, though I have done some research.

I downloaded Ollydbg, changed JE SHORT 6FAA44A8 to JMP SHORT 6FAA44A8, not sure how to save the changes though or anything like that. Would appreciate help, or if anyone could email me a working modded version that would be awesome (215eyedmoon at gmail dot com).

Also, interesting note about 1.07 LF - I recently noticed the bugged (feature?) extra weapon damage on the lightning bolts is taken from current weapon, not weapon used when throwing, regardless whether your switch can be used. I guess you could do something like craft a nasty tmaul, stick 3 hels in it, and do some really evil damage. Or a 6 pemerald weapon, etc.

There is no need to make a new .dll for 1.07 as the 1.09 one works fine and can be dled at the Phrozen Keep.

Interesting find about the LF. That could be useful to know when fighting LI crowds as LF pwns anything non LI. I'll have to have a think about what would be the best switch weapon for this.

The trick with finding any particluar rack is not to be looking for it. As soon as you decide you can't be bothered with a thresher rack anymore and you'd rather have a grandfather, that is when the thresher rack will turn up.

On a more serious note, I've not done countess either, but I'm guessing it would be a pain due to the unpredicability of having a close WP route to racks etc. The good thing about LK and Vaught (and to a lesser extent Meph) is that you can be pretty much guarenteed to have racks close(ish) to the WP. They may not give you what you want, but they are quick to run. I did do the Stoney tomb for a while - that was quite fun, although the same applied, it was good when it was close to town, not so good when it was far away.

Thanks, works great. Now I just have to get some more chars to hell so I can start leveling for real.

My zon now has a brand new toy, it's by no means godly but I doubt I'll be able to do better, so I'm calling the build pretty much complete (I am still going to continue leveling for crafting/shopping). I won't try until I've got quite a few more levels at any rate, though I do think a fast shopped bow with 2 poison affixes and 4 pemeralds would be really godly. With the 20 ias on my gloves I have 10 fpa guided/multi and 3 fpa strafe. I think the um was worth it, ow isn't easy to get in 1.07 and I like some even if it's only 10% on everyone.

I don't have many charms as I haven't found any ama skillers, +max doesn't help LF and I like my inventory space. Some res, stats, a bit of mf, frw.

If I remade this char I'd do some things differently. I'd get level 15+ multi shot and not bother with strafe, taking points mostly out of dodge and a few from critical strike.

Correct me if I'm wrong - but shouldn't it be impossible for missile weapons from TC69 (i.e. Grand Matron Bow) and above to be dropped?:shocked:

A bit more topic related: My sorceress will be battling her way through NM soon (defeated normal Baal just now), trying to reach Hell LK for that eth Zerker and eth Decapitator (I think I'll use this one over Glorious Axe for Kingslayer).
Is it best to level some time in Normal or should I immediately switch to NM (currently level 32)?

It didn't drop, anya gave it to me. I didn't talk to anya after saving her for a long time (i.e. 15+ levels) in the hope of getting a better item type, I don't know if it worked.

Go straight to nm and rush through until you get to hell ancients imo. It's not worth making an effort to level before you can do hell cows once you've got to level 30. You'll probably start to die quite a lot later if you try and ignore everything untwinked but don't go out of your way to kill stuff.

I just had a problem trying to rush my level 26 barb, got an error screen while loading a lan game I was trying to make with him. The barb was wiped and replaced with a blank (basically naked and unstatted/skilled, in other words what you get if you use the -act 5 command I think though I don't know which version that was for) level 32 barb of the same name. I'd just given him a new load of nice tweaking items as well, think I've just lost my full irathras, both bloodletters, angelic amu armour and 2 rings, only ik boots, nice rare ias dual res gloves, spare mav belt, peasant crown... So be careful with that mod d2gfx I guess ^^ I have a backup of the barb at 26 before getting the new items as least and can probably recover most stuff from atma's backup stashes anyway.
