Everyone go bot hunting

I'm guessing you're pure fire?

No, meteorb. As Dii Legend said, a pure fire sorceress would get to far more ridiculous levels of damage. If you do some experiments with a skill calculator, you'll find that +skills equipment improves your fire damage by astounding amounts.

What gear do you use? What's your skill point distribution? And what level are you O_O

Gear:
  • Helmet: Harlequin Crest
  • Armor: Chains of Honor (traded for Ber, and, yeah, I know, it was probably duped :(; the rest of the runes and the base armor are self found)
  • Weapon: HotO (self made from 2 Hellforge Gul's cubed into a Vex)
  • Shield: Spirit monarch
  • Gloves: Magefist
  • Belt: Arachnid Mesh
  • Boots: Silkweave
  • Amulet: magic/blue +2 skills amulet
  • Rings: 2 rare rings with miscellaneous somethings on them, nothing special
  • Charms: Annihilus, Sorceress Hellfire torch, some life charms, no skillers

I use her exclusively for rushing and key running, so she's totally optimized for power, not magic find, and that helps.

Skills: Exactly as per the meteorb guide except that I tried to come closer to optimizing Fire Mastery vs. synergies. Fireball and Meteor are maxed. Fire Bolt is at about 18, and Fire Mastery is at about 10 right now. I think that might be one or two extra points in Fire Mastery if I ever get +skills rings, but that's because some of my more recent equipment acquisitions weren't factored into the plan.

Level 90.

About this bot-hunting thing, excellent idea but I don't have the patience and was never into PvP. :azn:

Patience? It takes a half minute or less to take of those dorks down. It's not even PvP. It's more akin to shooting a V2 rocket at a bucket of fish.

Dr Elmer Jiggle, what's your listed Frozen Orb damage and cold mastery level?

Dr Elmer Jiggle, what's your listed Frozen Orb damage and cold mastery level?

Damage is 506-529. Natural cold mastery is level 1, but with +skills it's up to 17 (-100% cold resistance) now.

That means it was a bit low for a long time while I accumulated equipment, but I never really felt like I was seriously lacking for cold damage. Cold is just a backup for a meteorb anyway. I knew that if I could get the stuff, I was ultimately headed for enough +skills that I didn't want more than 1 point in mastery, so I tried to force myself to stick with that.

Trippy. I woudln't have thought fireballs would do enough if they were indeed equipped with The Rising Sun amulets.

New theory.

I think they use The Rising Sun in Travincal to counter the hydras, but then they switch it for some other amulet (magic find?) for the rest of the run.

As I mentioned earlier, I've been partying with them in Travincal and then killing them at the Frigid Highlands waypoint. They go down in no time that way, usually after about 4 fireballs. However, tonight I was interested in speeding up the process, so I started trying to kill them at the Travincal waypoint. That's proving to be extremely difficult. I can usually manage it, but it's a lot harder, and if the bots were smarter about chickening out, they could easily cheat death.

In other news, I noticed one of them spamming hammers at the Travincal waypoint for the first time tonight. Someone else has mentioned that before, but I had never seen it. I think that behavior is related to whether you have a mercenary. I think they get confused by the mercenary and think he's a monster, even if you're in their party. Both times my mercenary was alive (once in the bot's party, once hostile), the bot cast hammers at the waypoint. He never did it after, even though I think I encountered the same bot (one of the funsad type) again.

getting them at trav wp is very easy with a trapper. put traps, merc and sm in that little building around tp, wait outside to collect ear and 200g.

Hmm...just shopped a jeweler's archon plate of the mammoth with the gold from my last hunt....yummy

I can't wait that my javazon is ready to take them down...it should be fun.

Also want to try some form of charger...might be fun too

i guess everyone has their own way of running that works for them. I recently changed the way I do my runs. I do these runs for the mf, not the bot specifically. GO straight to pindle, kill him and tp. As soon as im in town, hostile ID any drops and sell/stash. Go kill eld. Go back to harrogath, if he isnt in town i will start to shenk. If there are alot of monsters i will go back to wp and wait to kill bot, if not kill shenk then run back to wp and kill bot.

Some noteable finds in the past few days of hunting.

cpl 100 psn sc's
2/12/20 sc
+3 16lit/19fire schutas
skulders
and a pair of boots 20frw/6dex/lit/fire/psn res(cant member numbers but all over 10) and 25mf

On a side note i have run eld and shenk alot, enough to level myself from 75 ish to 86. Shenk dropped my first "hr" ever, it was a gul that i traded for a 35fcr monarch. Eld or one of his buddies just dropped me my second...an IST now to figure out what to do with it.

Happy Hunting ALL

grats on the jeweler's archon plate

the charger bug would scare me too much to use charge.

Yea but i had in mind a 2-hand charger, a bit of a glass cannon

iirc it is holy shield that cause charge bug

Or maybe a berserk barb...damn i miss the one i had on NL, 20k dmg + almost 100% critical/deadly strike = alot of unresistable damage

@jwmoore: congrats on the runes...now, didn't i talk about some kind of patent pending tax for these runs? :D

You are right, it is the holy shield thingy. When your holy shield disappears when you are charging, you cannot charge again in that game.

well, I found one but couldn't do any damage to it :| then once I almost killed one but it left the game before I could (and before it got to shenk)

i've had far better luck recently .. my pattern follows jwmoore's very closely. pindle right away (so i can use the tp in town, and raise a quick free army), hostile in town, kill eldritch, wait by wp or kill shenk.

if the bot gets 2-3 hammers off, and my merc is out of range, it's bad. if i can tele on top of the bot, he's dead. =)

ive had some spam hammers at trav wp, is this a anti anti-bot measure or just in their routines.

I've only seen them do it when I have a mercenary. My theory is that their routines mistake the mercenary for a monster and try to attack it -- even when I'm in their party. Have you seen them throw hammers at the waypoint when there are no monsters and no mercenary?

I have see the new game names and some new bots too...Did they old ones got banned or are there just more and more of them around? :/
