All Alone Tournament III

Having had my uppance come with necros, I vowed I was NEVER playing D2 again, was going off to sort out my life, and spend time reading or being more creative with my time than playing this game.

Anyhoo, I'm definitely NOT back in now with a Mageazon, a build I've never tried. I'm absolutey not going to proceed at a painfully slow pace and think about end bosses before just charging in.

Now where did I put that copy of War and Peace...

why? I dont see that anywhere in the rules and if I'm going to spend this much time on a char I want to be able to play online with it.
so can anyone confirm this? because if so you can sign me out again :)


 
It's just accepted that all tournaments in the Single Player forum are offline (ie. SP), so you won't see that listed in any rules. To be honest it never occured to me that would cause confusion, but I can see how it might now.

Skoolbus is the creator of this tournament, so his/her word is law so no one else needs to confirm what was said. :cool:

yeah I just noticed it was in the single player forum. (I always use the search function to find the topic)
but if its in single player then how the hell can you know if the person is telling the truth and wether he or she didn't use a program like "ultimate diablo item editor)


 
O noes, I am terribly overwhelmed with my other projects, you can edit me out in the next update :embarassed:

All you have to do is become a part of the single player community here and you'll quickly realize why you don't have to worry about that.

By the way, my Zon just hit the cold plains. Haven't had bairly any time to play. Hopefully I'll have a chance to get to an updatable worthy place! :thumbsup:

After playing for most of the night i've managed to reach the outer cloister. Now that 'd had some sleep i'm ready to move on with trying to kill andy.
I'm hoping for some antidote potions to drop.

Not much time to play today. NDE Experience in Underground Catacombs with a boss pack of Mishappen, the boss w/ spectral hits and extra strong. Kept my distance and helped my lone dire wolf with magic until he was dead and had no mana handy to make another :shocked:

Fortunately, his skull socketed bow and some healthy running enabled him to build his mana bulb enough to summon another and finish him off with a well placed molten boulder. I'm hording scrolls of ID and using bows/summons/fire spells to keep my distance and it seems to be working pretty well... now if the game would stop dropping town portal scrolls all over the place, I'd be a happy man. Players 8, for the record.

Also going to start hording antidotes in preparation for Andy. If I survive, I plan on being level 30 before Duriel and spamming grizzly to take him down. Will do another post after I reach the monestary (kids + work = limited play time until the weekend).

Having a blast otherwise... hell, I might just switch to hardcore after this tournament, as my Softcore characters almost never die.

I managed to kill andy on players 8. She killed my minions in a couple of seconds, but a rare bardiche i found allowed me to go toe to toe and beat her down. It took almost my entire potion supply and a couple NDEs, but she eventually fell. Investing a point in bone armour and point wall came in handy for resisting some damage.

Now i'm in lut gohlein. I think i'll skip the sewers for now and raid them after i hit the claw vipers. My potion stock is in no condition to challenge radamant at the moment.

It's impossible to reach level 30 before Duriel, according to the "no re-running areas" rule of the tourney. p8 full clears will get you to level 28, maybe a slim chance for 29.

wont you automaticly do some areas twice? like when you stop in stony fields, you first got to find wp and kill everything on you path. next time you start playing you'll do stony fields again. or am I making a total fool out of myself? :)

and I got a question. can you return to the same experience shrine over and over again? or is that against the no rerunning areas rule.

Absolutely no. The rule for no re-running of areas means that you may not re-run areas. So if you get to a new area, you can either get the wp, not kill any monsters/open chests, and clear it when you start next time, or clear it first, get wp, and run to the next area without opening chests or killing monster unless absolutely necessary.

Exp shrines do not 're-charge'.



 
Yes, there may be some area overlap between sessions, but it should be minimal and carefully managed. In any case, it's not significant enough to worry about, and wouldn't provide a leveling advantage. IIRC the items found during an overlap are forbidden (at least in the original tourney).

XP shrines are a one-shot deal. They won't recharge themselves.

I finally finished act 1, but I put it down to p5 for Catacombs 4 since I wasn't sure how well my shadow would stand up to Andy and I somehow forgot to gather antidote potions. She actually dropped something useful though, Bloodfist unique gloves. No real problems, although I run out of mana way too fast.
 
ah ok didn't know that about the xp shrines. and can you safe the xp shrine? say you find one in blood more and you dont use it, but the moment you are going to catacombs you go get it. (naturally without killing any monsters)

and what is the max lvl you can have before reaching andy?
 
If you went through all of Act 1 in the same session (no S&E) then you could save a Blood Moor XP shrine for Catacombs. Once you do a S&E the shrine is rerolled and likely won't be an XP shrine. Even if it's still an XP shrine, it's not the same shrine and therefore off-limits.

Max level for Andy is 21 assuming p8 full clear.
 
i'm not sure on the max level, but i had around 17 before i went after her ad that was with fulls clears of everything (except pit lvl 2) and a couple lucky xp shrines to give me a boost.

As for my progress i'm now lvl 23, slogging on through the maggot lair. A cyrstal sword of self repair is serving me nicely, along with a grand charm that gives +25 poison damage over 5 seconds (but it'll be dropped after it outlives its usefullness). I had NDE with a mana burn hollow one, but other than that all is peachy with my lonely journy.
 
then its ok. I just arrived in inner cloister and just lvl 18. so should be arround 20 when I get to andy and did mostly full clears (except pit)

btw do you think this is possible to do with a ranger paladin?

Definately. So far, my 'sin has been using range almost exclusively. Now that I have LS above level 1, it supports the LS, but I see no reason why a paly with fanat or holy whatever couldn't be entirely viable.

Level 21 for andy seems right. I've managed level 20 a few times but I don't ever clear all areas. While you can't abuse exp shrines, it is legal to abuse other ones by keep using it over and over (as long as it's all during the same game).

Update on my progress, killed dury the other day, dropped utter trash as usual. I'm not going to be able to play my char for quite a while as I'm going to be very busy this week (unless it rains and I don't have work). I'm not going to play before I have the time to do all of act 3 in one sitting, don't want to mess with the horrible wp positioning when I start up mid act.
