Location of Deckard Cain in Harrogath

Location of Deckard Cain in Harrogath

Hi,

I've been playing on b.net previously, so I'm 100% sure I have the very last patch 1.11b, since the game is automatically patched when logging in.

However, I've noticed something strange when first arriving in Harrogath with my new SP sorceress :

Deckard Cain isn't near Larzuk anymore, but he's near Qual-Kehk. Now I don't understand : if the patch is the same in b.net or SP gameplay, why does Deckard Cain have a different location in town  ?

Answer: Because Blizzard hates us SPers (there is a lot of evidence for this, btw) and wants us to make us walk longer to get to Cain.

I don't ever remember Cain being near Larzuk....I haven't played bnet since 1.10 and I'm sure he was in the same place even then...

That drives me NUTS!! I often just buy ID scrolls from Malah to sell random magic items rather than bother with Decard's stupid SP location. He's so much more conviently located by Larzuk. :hanky:

Thays exactly what I do when I run Pindle.

@Frosty: Annoyed me when I came back to SP too. Don't know why it's like that.

oh man! that has been driving me crazy! i was SURE they moved deckard cain in 1.10, and i couldnt figure out why they would move him back in 1.11. but apparently its a single player issue. how awful.

IMHO, he should follow you around everywhere you go in town like a minion. And offer up free potions. You saved his life and all of Sanctuary after all. But all he can do is offer you a free service that he should be doing for free anyway if he really cared about his world. He's a senile profiteer if you ask me. Pulled the same crap the first time around.

O yeah, he is much more conveniently located on Bnet.

Does *anyone* ever "Stay awhile and listen"? I know I don't.

And yes, I buy scrolls rather than go to him when Pindling too.

He should do less talking & standing around campfires and do something a bit more proactive. I'm busy saving the world from four Demons and all he wants to do is stand around and chat.

Actually I like Cain's spot for doing pindle runs. I usually go up and around Malah to heal. Then just swing right by Cain, get ID'ed, then go to Anya to sell my stuff, then enter portal. It works fine for me, but then agian I have alot of frw. But yes for normal questing he is in a dumb spot. My 2 cents...

I recall that on Bnet he was not near Larzuk at first. Maybe it was the 1.11 or 1.11b update that moved him over to Larzuk on Bnet. Really not sure why that didn't affect us in SP though. Unless it was a server side update...

That's what I'm thinking. The last time I played on Bnet D2 was version 1.10 and I swear Cain was by Qual-Kehk. That was his spot in 09, too. I never remember him being by Larzuk so it must be a 1.11 thing...unless my long-term memory is completely shot (which may very well be the case :D).

Regardless, it doesn't really bug me anyway. I always carry a full tome of ID.

Well, he's not really good for much else. I mean, he can't even escape from Tristram by himself, even though HE HAS A TOME OF TOWN PORTAL!!! (maybe he needs you to show him how to use it?)

I bet if you gave him an up'd Ribcracker instead of his old, puny little stick he could kick some serious tail!

If you don't rescue him, he appears in Act 2 and charges you for identifying things. Then at the end of Act 4 or 5 he reels off the "I'm glad I could be of help" speech, meanwhile counting his profits whilst you're off risking life and limb. Big deal, you can identify different types of Boots you miserly old scrote.

Blue boots, brown boots...

SHINY BOOTS!!!

I've always wondered what happens if you go to Act 2 without rescuing him (so he charges ID tax), then later go back and rescue him. Maybe I'll try it with the next character I start.
