Why superior crystal swords?

If anyone can enlighten me, why people pay extra for superior socketed crystal swords? what runewords do people make in these that benefit from "superior"?

Or is just a twink thing?

Re: Why superior crystal swords?

the usual culprits of this is

Spirit
Cta
Facet/mf/gf sticks

Crystal swords are picked as they can get 6 sockets and the item has next to str/dex requirements.

There usually is no benefit to being a superior item base, it's more a status thing I think. Crystal swords are so common that it's easy to request and obtain a sup one. Why not go sup right?

Why not you say? Well so after you whack enough monsters with your Spirit/CTA/Facet CS you don't have to pay outrageous amounts for repairs of course!!

Its perfectionism. Nothing else IMO. 15 ED, or 15 Dur really isn't worth it on something like a CS. I can understand it on an elite armor/weapon, as it actually can make a slight difference, but a CS? There is no point.

Re: Why superior crystal swords?

I'm partial to ethereal crystal swords for runewords that don't involve hitting the enemy, simply because I like the look. I might by accident hit a monster every once in a while, but I've never had one break on me.

For characters that don't get hit a lot, ethereal Spirit in a Monarch will save you 10 strength points if it's your heaviest item. I used one on my lightning sorc for months without it breaking.
