Where are characters stored?

Hi all,

Got a short question to you all...

Where are the characters and all items stored? Local drive or battle.net?

When I switch to another PC, install my D2LOD there, will I still be able to use my old characters? Or will I have to start all over again?

Thanks!

If you play single player, you can copy the character files to another computer.
BUT AFAIK that will make you ineligible to trade on the forums here.

I play single player and want to just backup my character. Do I just have to backup the .d2s files? If so, what are the reg files and ma files for? Is there certain cases I would want to back those up to?

Thanks

You only need the .d2s file. The .ma(p) files hold the maps, and the .key file holds the info about area exploration. Also backing up your characters isn't against any SPF regulations.

But using backups to dupe items is.

Back to the original question, the key and map files are on your computer in the d2 save folder, in the USWest folder in my case. I'm unsure what the key files do, remember your key configuration?, but, as you get a new map every time you log in to bnet, these map files are useless after each session.
