What are good os candidates for rune armors ?

I see alot of people with shroud , personally i find them ugly looking.

What are the good candidates to make runword armor ?

Is a 4os Hellforge (196 strengh) worth a try ?

Shroud is popular because it's easy to find and has a nice strength requirement to armor value.

If you use a runeword with that Hell Forge Plate, its trade value isn't going to be that incredible since it's strength requirement is huge for the rather modest increase in armor you get compared to Archon Plate which has a much lower strength requirement.

Archon Plate has 410-524 and a 103 strength requirement.
Hell Forge has 421-530 and a 196 strength requirement.

Even if you have Enigma, a character will still need strength over 100 to keep it on. Characters with Archon Enigma can have strength as low as 40 and keep it on if they use strength enhancing items to put it on the first time.

Archon makes the most sense for Enigma IMO. Dusk Shroud is a better choice for Armors that don't enhance strength like Enigma does.

Even Sacred Armor, the highest Def armor available can easily roll a defense value well under Archon Plate's maximum at 487-600 and its strength requirement is a massive 232.

You will always get 4 sockets (because of the iLvl of the white armor), UNLESS your Archon Plate was a low quality one, and you used the Horadric formula to make it a normal one. By doing this, your armor will be a normal one with iLvl=1, and Larzuk will always give it only 3 sockets.

Tip : This is a good way to get a 3-Sockets Archon Plate. Pick up a low quality one, burn a EL and a chipped gem to make it normal, and use Larzuk's Quest. Unfortunately, you'll often end up with a crappy defense for your 3-Sockets Archon Plate :thanks: !

EDIT : Just saw you edited your message. Well, if you plan to put 4 sockets in it, better use Larzuk's Quest (especially if your Archon has nice Def, that is 520+). If you want to try your chance for a 3 sockets one, use this Horadric Cube formula (quoted from Arreat Summit) :

Charsi food ? do people still go to Charsi ?

The heaviest of the light armours is preferred for characters also because medium/heavy armours give a slower movement rate and a faster stamina drain.(I think).


Heavier armours and ethereals go best on mercs but Im not sure their movement rates get penalised.


Low quality items are cracked, crude etc.

- With the horadric formula, there's 1/6 chance that you'll get 3 Sockets, and 3/6 chance you'll get 4 sockets (max sockets on armors). Unfortunately, you'll also have 1/6 chance you'll get 1 socket, and 1/6 chance you'll get 2 sockets.
- With Larzuk's Quest, you'll always get 4 sockets on this item (since your item is a normal quality one, and NOT a low-quality upgraded normal item).

Your choice, if you don't want to try your luck But remember that Archon plates have a defense that range from 410 to 524 (average 467). Yours is 470, it's barely better than the average defense for an Archon plate. People usually socket 520+ ones for normal quality ones, or they socket superior ones (def can then go up to 603 for 15% superior ones).

No, it only works once.

how do you know your item is low quality ?

Just read your item's name : you'll have it mentionned (Low Quality, Cracked...). Same for superior items.

Charsi food ? do people still go to Charsi ?
