Venom Prebuff Claws

I've been building my kicksin around wizAdept's guide even though it is a few years old.

In his build he uses a 6 venom claw for his offhand claw. Now the question is when you actually duel do you use the claw or is it just for prebuff?

Re: Venom Prebuff Claws

It is still the best (by far) guide around.

Socket it with either two 15 resist all jewels if you need the resists or two poison facets if you don't and duel with it.

Personally I use a Jade Talon though, as I play SP and resists are harder to come by than BNet where Anni, torch and better (potentially duped) charms are available.

Re: Venom Prebuff Claws

Afaik Venom's level matters only when it is casted so you could use something else off-hand without losing damage

Re: Venom Prebuff Claws

Venom can be pre-buffed with +% Poison Skill Damage mods like the ones found on Trang-Oul's Claws and the 'Bramble' runeword. The bonuses will remain after the items are removed. +% Poison Skill Damage is applied when Venom is cast, and again when its poison damage is applied by a melee attack. The character screen also applies +% PSD to ranged attack damage, but this does not actually happen. So if the items are removed, the +% PSD from the pre-buff will only apply once if using a melee attack.

So if it has facets in it, you are better leaving it on if you can.

Re: Venom Prebuff Claws

I agree with the above poster, the way venom works is similar to how enchant works on a melee sorc. The damage is applied once when its cast, and once when you strike. Using those claws as a prebuff is obviously better than not having them at all, but if you cant afford losing the bonuses that other claws could possibly provide then the extra poison damage on striking may not be worth it.
