Upgrading Polearm

[font=arial,helvetica][size=-1][font=arial,helvetica][size=-1]I found a nice 4 socket poleaxe which i plan to use for the Insight Runeword so can spam CE some more . I've been reading up on the summit on how to upgrade the item. But i'm not entirely sure if it can. The recipe that i found is this:
1 Ort Rune + 1 Amn Rune + 1 Perfect Sapphire + Normal (Basic) Rare Weapon = Exceptional Rare Weapon

I'm confused about the (Basic) in between. Since my poleaxe is not rare, but a basic/normal one. Could someone clarify this for me? Or in other words, can i upgrade a 4 socket polearm to exception/elite status??

The word rare is the key word basic paleaxe is not rare so no upgrade for this one.

Or in other way - NO

Bummer, i was hoping it meant:

Normal Basic items and Normal Rare items, too bad.

Im confused as well. What the hell is a normal "basic" rare weapon??? Whats a non basic rare weapon??? Talk about confusing ppl...

rare is yellow

non rare is any color but yellow

so a rare poleaxe would be [yellow]poleaxe[/yellow]

which can be used in cube recipe to up, but.....ah let's just say only rare and gold basic and exceptional polearms can be upped...
