Toms Titan Thread :)

Hi folks

Seeing as WW Titans have been discussed a lot quite recently I am going to post detailed stats from my titan barb. Hopefully this may convince some of the doubters that a titan is the only way to go for pvm. This is not meant to be a guide, so please don’t expect perfection, it’s more of an explaination of my build, and why things are the way they are. Feel free to use other items etc as there are several obvious choices that I neglect to use.
Ok some stats:

Build:

20 WW
20 Polearm Mastery
20 Shout
20 BO
1 BCom
1 Berserk
1 in Inc Speed / Stamina and Nat Res
Remaining points into Iron Skin

“Urkules†lvl 89 Titan WW Barb Stats (base / in gear):

Str: 475 / 607
Dex: 20 / 117
Vita: 25 / 72
Energy: 10 / 57

As you can see every single stat point has been dropped into strength, I really don’t see the need to invest in vita at all.

Gear:

Helm: Arreats 197/4 with 38 ed jewel.
Armour: CoH Dusk
Weapon: 384/14 eBotD GPA
Amulet: Angelic
Ring1: Angelic
Ring2: BK 5%
Boots: IK
Belt: IK
Gloves: IK
Anni: 17/16/10

Now why not Gores, Verdungoes & Dracul/Steelies I hear you ask?
Well firstly I need 70 dex for the GPA, so the IK Gloves are the best choice here as I don’t want to use a Ravenfrost. I really think that PDR isn’t needed for pvm, dead monsters can’t hurt me and one whirl kills pretty much everything. This left my belt choice free. I toyed with a SoE (for LL) and a Nos Coil (LL+str) and found that the added LL simply wasn’t needed so I went for the IK belt for the nice +str boost. Wearing both Gloves and Belt made me turn to the boots almost automatically. Gores were tried and discarded, mainly because the mods were totally useless to me. A dead monster doesn’t get affected by CB or OW, and the Deadly doesn’t really matter as my killing speed is extremely fast already. The +life and AR on the IK boots is nice and ofcourse I now receive the 3 partial set bonus of:
Extra Defence on Gloves & Belt
25 FHR
25 IAS (mainly for Conc / Berserk)
25% mf
+2 Combat skills.

All the rest of his gear pretty much speaks for itself, Angelics for life/dex/ar and dtm, BK for skill/LL & life. CoH for skills, LL and res. Arreats simply because it’s the best. GPA for the range, damage, lwbp and low requirements.

Charms/Inventory:

I leave a 2*4 space empty for picking items up, plus the Cube. Which leaves me 28 spaces free for charms. I have an Anni, and the rest are life charms. 18-20 life sc’s, plus one or two LC’s that have +max / +AR on them. In all I’d say I only have about +10 max or so coming from charms. So those of you blessed with many good +max/ar/life charms should be able to push the damage and AR up quite a bit higher.

Char Screen Stats:

WW damage: 3.4-9.6k / 3.6-11k with shouts. Then with Might = 4.3-12k.
WW AR: 8743 / 9779 after shouts.
Conc Damage: 4-11k, after shouts and Might = 4.3-13k.
Conc AR: 8924 / 10164 after shouts.
Defence: 4267 / 13064 after shouts.
Life: 589 naked (~1100 with BO). Charms add ~1300 so final life is 2444.
Mana: 126 / 277 after shouts.

[I use 2*echoing swords and a +3 amulet for pre-buff. I don’t bother with a Demon Limb as ~10k AR is plenty for pvm]

Might Mercenary lvl 87:
Reapers Toll “Amnâ€
Duriels Shell
Gaze

Other odds & sods:

75 res all on Hell, 31%LL 33% ctc Decrepify from the mercs weapon makes me a force to contend with. The highest damage I have “attained†via a combination of nice aura’s whilst Baal running is 6.8-19k. One of these days I’ll bully some friends into giving me the perfect combination of auras to see how high it can go. He can easily solo anywhere in the game, bar the Chaos Sanctuary and the WSK. Basically if nothing can IM me, then I will clear the area in a WW or 2. IM means I have to use berserk, and of course I can’t leech life with this, so death is a possibility.

Hope this helps and if there is anything i have missed out, lmk and i'll fill the gaps. :)

gurreeaaat work!!

Your belt/boots/glove setup is a nice & affordable alternative but I guess you forgot about dr from soe(its not just LL) & ik boots speed you up too much for my liking-40%.

heres my ideal setup:

steelrends;60% ed,10% cb
soe:dr is precious for titans.
goblintoes:base runwalk & cb.

Once again, quite an acheivement building that pure titan(all strength) & yet managing 2.4k life."How the heck is anything gonna kill you?"

seems convincing but a few points:
*your build is too much expensive, why do you bother pvming
*your life is too low without charms
*i suggest warcry for pvm

@Riks - PDR really isn't at all precious for pvm titans - LL easily keeps my red ball full. Infact CB is also kinda pointless as it doesn't affect corpses. :)

Offense is my defence!

As for the frw - i could have saved a point or two from increased speed/stamina. The frw on the boots is usually nerfed as soon as some nice monster freezes me :) Either way as my damage is so high, and 1 hit usually kills everything the extra frw isn't a problem infact it's a benefit. I run fast, i whirl fast and i kill fast. He is like an unstoppable charging rhino and he doesn't slow down for anything. It's really quite skill-less, no need for triangled short whirls. I just stomp in with my frw, do a nice whirl and count the corpses. I simply don't need that extra hit or two that lower/zero frw would grant me and as i have forgone the Enigma for the CoH that extra frw is a blessing.

@Whitehaze - i do some pvp with m8's but i find that ppl take it faaar too seriously - if i want to play a game with egotistical young idoits suffering hormone imbalances i'll go play counterstrike - D2 is my escape from such nonsence.

As for cost - only the weapon and the armour are pricey. But the fact remains that in general Barbs are costly to kit up. I only started making barbs once i considered myself rich enough to be able to kit them up properly.
Armour - Lionheart (and an Um in the arreats, and some res from charms) would easily replace that. Or a Smoke or any armour with huge res's.

Weapon - Any elite polearm/spear would do, a Bonehew / Viperfork / Tombreaver etc etc would all be suitable replacements, especially if you found Eth versions. An eth Bonehew can do ~150-900 2H damage (my botd does ~330-920). And you could use the Glove/Boot/Belt slots to replace the mods lost from the botd - mainly the leech.

As for life being low:
You are joking right? I don't die - ever - so how can there be a problem with my life/vita totals? The whole point of this thread is to try and dispell the myth that you need 5k life AND 50% PDR to pvm with a ww barb - it's simply complete arse :)

Lasty - warcry? why? again you are joking?
Firstly the only curses i'd ever want over monsters heads is decrepify/amp damage/life tap. As the Reapers Toll provides a continuous source of Decrepify the last thing i'd want to do is stop WW'ing to cast a warcry over the decrep. As i said above, this is a pretty talentless build - warcries in general are not needed. If one whirl kills everything, why would i stop whirling to use a cry? A titan is unlike a "standard" pvm WW barb in many ways:
I don't need to mess about doing many short tight whirls
I don't ever bite off more than i can chew - as there aren't that many monsters in Hell :D Infact the more the merrier.
And i don't need any of the crys to help "control" the monsters. It's all about brutally high raw physical damage. Infact playing with my barb is like using a lawnmower to slice tomatoes: messy, fun, satisfying, quick, effective but not very tactical!!

if you like too much pvm i cant say anything and i agree with you about cs :)
weapon and armor alternatives are ok, if you put them on your guide before it would be better
about life - half serious, charms are expensive also but 1k life is good enough to get you out of trouble mostly with life leech but there are some situations like lightning caster black souls and those exploding little undead dolls
about warcry- you're savage dude :D

I had a similar - at some extent - sword barb in ladder 1 and besides IM, dolls were a problem, expecially if cursed or x players game but i guess here comes the range difference 3-5 / sword - gpa.
I choosed thundergod`s belt for stats and the 85% light rez u can achieve rendering souls and almost all light dmg harmless - in most cases i get healed.

Which is why i didn't do the whole alternative item thing :)

I agree with basically everything you said. I've always felt that most people build pvm barbs way too defensively. Just to let you know though, warcry doesn't override curses.

I think he ment battlecry.

I'd have to disagree that barbs in general are expensive to build. Just for survival, a barb can easily go untwinked regardless of the build (assuming it's a typical build and not an underpowered variant). In order to get killing speed, a barb will typically need to twink in a weapon.

Cheap Equipment:
helm: rockstopper, stealskull, crown of thieves, guilammie's face, ik, rare barb helm with +1 all skills +life and/or +resists
ammy: crescent moon, saracen's chance, rare with +1 skills, +resists, +life
armor: duriel's shell, yeah, who needs anything else
gloves: bloodfist, ik, LoH
belt: string, ik, wilhelm's pride
boots: ik, waterwalk, goblin toe
rings: manald, rare, dwarfstar

I have an old MikeyRat Titan barb and once 1.10 came out I had to make a few changes. Most were for the better but my damage is a more than the orginal poster's so I will post my gear and stats

Helm: Ber'd Up'd Arreats
Armor: Archon Enigma
Belt: Perfect Verdungos (Made this change mainly b/c you need some dr)
Boots: Perfect Marrowwalks <---- 20 Strength/17 Dex, this is a titan build right?
Gloves: IK gloves
Ammy: Imp Brow (Yes I know its duped, but with +2 Barb, 19 strength and 21 resist who can beat it)
Ring #1: 13 strenght/13 dex/ll/lightning resists
Ring #2: Dual leech/13 dex/15 all resist
Weapon: Eth BOTD Ghostspear
Weapon #2: Eth BOTD Warpike (when I really want massive damage)

Base stats/With gear
Strength 496/704
Dex: 25/164
Vitality: 25/111
Mana: 10/58

Inventory full of ar/life sc's

So whats the result
Beserk 2473-20K
WW 1818-14K
Life: 2k
Defense: over 10k

Might Merc adds 2-3K to the damage variables

My suggestion is that if you really want to boost your damage even more try to get a Pride runeword from ladder for your merc, it has lvl 17 concentration on it

Just throwing my build out there, enjoy

Would a Titan build work in a Leaper?

Or does it work really only for WW?

Anyone ever tried making a Titan Leaper?

I'm with you, man. Duriel's Shell is, like, my favorite.

How about a Lionheart? The +Str and the +ED% seem like a natural for this type of build.

... made into a Great Hauberk, of course.
