Theoretical disscussion - Grief/Oath in Bows?

Hi guys, although these two new RWs are mainly interested for Smiters and Barbs, I would like to get some numbers how the bows from these bows would look like !

So lets see Grief :

Socket Swords/Axes
Eth + Tir + Lo + Mal + Ral

35% Chance To Cast Level 15 Venom On Striking
+30-40% Increased Attack Speed (varies)
Damage +340-400 (varies)
Ignore Target's Defense
-25% Target Defense
+1.875 (per character level)% Damage To Demons (Based on Character Level)
Adds 5-30 Fire Damage
-20-25% To Enemy Poison Resistance (varies)
20% Deadly Strike
Prevent Monster Heal
+2 To Mana After Each Kill
+11 Life After Each Kill

This one in Grand Matron would do great damage, I guess ! If someone can explain, if I re-roll perfect one with +400 damage, it will raise both Min and Max damage, rite ? Also, with chance to cast Venom and -to Poison res, strafing with it would make it pretty powerfull ! Adding Trang gloves to even raise Venom damage would be even better !

Oath, much cheeper one :

Shael + Pul + Mal + Lum

30% Chance To Cast Level 20 Bone Spirit On Striking
Indestructible
+50% Increased Attack Speed
+210-340% Enhanced Damage (varies)
+75% Damage To Demons
+100 To Attack Rating Against Demons
Prevent Monster Heal
+10 To Energy
+10-15 Magic Absorb (varies)
Level 16 Heart Of Wolverine (20 Charges)
Level 17 Iron Golem (14 Charges)

Puting this in Matri for speed and adding Marrowwalk for Synergis to Bone spirit would be great as well ! Not to mention charges of HoW and IG (can be synergized with Stone)...

So do you think that if these two would be available for Bows, that they would be better of Faith/Brand?

Yes, +400 damage would increase both min and max, making one sick powerful bow.

Also, why in the earth would you want to make it into a grand matron bow? Base damage of the bow hardly matters for Grief so I would make it into a matriarchal bow because it is the only bow with -10 base speed and the ability get 5 sockets.

Anyway, Grief would be way too powerful for bows. Windforce at clvl 99 has 291 average damage and a perfect 400 Grief in matri bow would have average damage of 433.

Aha yep, stupid me , I see the point ! So in case of Grief Bows, that would be ultimate PvP/PvM Matri Bow ! I guess in taht case Trang Gloves for Venom damage would be also OK (although you loose KB and 20 IAS, +2 Passives etc), but KB you can get from Unique Bone Visage anyway ! Too bad they made Oath and Grief for Sword/Axe only :(( !!!

If they would be at least available on Spears - a Spearazon with either of these would do well as well I guess !

Don't forget the other charges in the bone tree that can be gotten on rings.

Also Iron Golem charges with the Clay golem are not that great since the slvl 16 clay golem only has 100 defence adding even 35 per slvl to that defence is still not going to take it much above 5% chance to avoid the hit. The slvl 17 charges only take the claygolems defence to 695. Thats not as helpful as the bloodmoons blood golem charges that take the life up to 3000, effectively doubling the life expectancy of the golem. I would stick to metalgrid bloodmoon for synergizing a clay golem on stone. and yes the clay golem holds the higher skill when the items are switched so it will be 3000 life on a weapon switch, (I use this with my elemental druid).

I was thinking more of a tankazon build with Oath sorry it doesn't work ranged. Thats the game you have to play with runewords and uniques you have to use the item types they give you.

no ofensive, but wonder why you discuss about Grief in bows if yoll never be able to make one...or I am missing something?

I thought that it was quite evident in the premise that this was just hypothetical musings and ponderings.

Yep, its just theoretic discussion of course ! I wanted to point out that its shame that these two words which both have IAS are for swords/axes only,as I would rather spent LO in Grief bow then Fortitude armour/weapon or Pride polearm. It would be fair that Grief/Oath both be for all weapons, same as BotD, as the game would be more balanced ! Same is with Faith - it would be fair also this one to be available for other weapons, not only bows.

Just my few cents :xrollseye

Not so true, the bows have the balance of having distance, and if creating a very powerfull rune word for a bow like grief would cause a character such as the zon to be too powerfull to deal with in dueling games. I think Bnet has done a good job in limiting the power of certain characters.

Other than enabling up to a 12k smite damage right? Smiters were already powerful with the 120 damage from asterons. now they have that +damage tripled. Nice balance there blizzard. Give the smiters even more of an advantage.

Their main intention was to narrow the gap between casters and melees by creating a powerful melee weapon but as always they didnt think of all possibilities...

blizz screwed zon with a huge min/max damage gap. with grief it would be like having your max damage on your wf always connecting. thats an easy 1k damage after pvp penalty and they didnt want that. zons are strong enough.
