Stormshield vs. Homoculus

I know a lot of ppl think that homo is better than ss since it has higher block rate, thus require less dex. However, sometime i think ss is better in some cases. (against v/t) i just want to know ppl's comment about them which to use against melee.

stromshield-
advantage: u will have flexibility between ur belt and rings, max dr. higher fcr as well.
disadvantage: rquire more dex to maintain max block. (217 at lvl90) Require more str as well. (can be offset with enigma though)

homoculus-
advantage: require less dex to max block. (203 at lvl90) More skills, thus means more life & more dmg. (not really if u use the right gear setup)
disadvantage: u will have to use enigma + ber'd shako + ber'd homo + 15dr verdungo to get 49%dr, which means less flexibility between belt and rings when against melees.
 
For PvP I can see the advantages of Stormshield but there are plenty of other cheap sources of PDR, like Shaftstop.

Not sure what you mean by FCR unless you're talking about the item tradeoff to get max PDR. Otherwise, there is no FCR on a Stormshield. Homonc also gives really nice resists considering its other bennies and has a much lower Strength req on top of being easier to maintain a high block.

I'm assuming this is for a Bonemancer or hybrid? Otherwise FCR would most likely be irrelevant. From what I've seen, most Bonemancer builds concern themselves more with getting a good Bonespear stunlock through maximum FCR rather than worrying about actually getting hit by a melee character.

yes, i did review his guide but he didnt compare betweem those two. In his opinion, homo is the best, but i dont know what other ppls thoughts though. So i need some comments

let look at it when against a barb for example

note: i recommend using a white wand with +3bspear, +3barmor, +3bspirit or something else. (hoto will give u more fcr but offers a lot less dmg)

u will only need 75fcr against barb. (125 would be perfect, but u will lose ur pdr gears)

Homo setup:
ber'd shako
ber'd homo
enigma
15%verdungo
2x sojs
white wand (20%)
trang glove (20%)
a +2nec fcr ammy (let assume it is 20fcr, but around 15-19 would work also)

total fcr: 60%. So u will need 2x 10fcr to hit the desire bp, which means u cannot use sojs or ravenfrost. With hoto u still cant hit 125fcr bp. 40+20+20 +20= 100. Unless u got a godly +2nec 20fcr 2s circlet, then it would works.

Stormshield setup:
ber or shael'd +2nec 20fcr circlet (20%)
ber or hel'd ss
enigma
spiderweb (20%)
2x sojs
white wand (20%)
trang glove (20%)
+2nec 20fcr ammy (20%)

total fcr: 100%. But since it doesnt hit the desire 125 bp, i change trang glove to bloodfist for more fhr and life, which leaves me 80fcr.

This is just my opinion, so i want to see if someone has a suggestion?

This is how I see it:

Stormshield: More into Dex, less into Vit, but good DR.

Homunculus (not Homo): More into Vit, less into Dex, nice +Resistances, nice +Skills, no DR.

I'd go Homunculus.

Another alternative might be Darkforce Spawn... :D
Saw some necros using Spirit (ladder only) too!

nah, df is out of option here. We are dealing with a meleer, which means u want max block and pdr. Df has sucky block rate so forget about that. (spirit is even worse)

well if u teleport (enigma usage ofc) the usage of DF or Spirit is a viable choice.
But if u duell in leagues that ban usage of enigma that is another thing i guess! Then aiming for high max block is a priority!

Btw is it worth to uppgrade homo to an elite item? or keep it the way it is?

You're wrong about one thing. Even if u have enigma to use tele against meleer, u still want to max block and pdr since if u get caught off guarded, (ppl like ww barb can teleport pretty fast as well) u will die in 1-2 short ww no matter what. So u want max block and pdr against any meleers. (in casters duel then it is a total different thing)

No, upgrade homo makes u put more pts into str and it doesnt worth that extra 200 defense and sacrifice life. u can never be a necro with 10k+ def, so is pointless to upgrade it.

Ok! Some necros go for max vita and base dex + str against melee chars...I really have no experience from duells so i was just saying what I saw/read...i guess theory and practice is totally different...

If u go on against some experience bonemancer, ask them, and they will answer ur question. Beside, this is a fact. No block for caster when facing melee = gg for u. ( i learn this like 3 years ago)

Everybody in pubs do not max block cuz all ppl play casters. (u barely see barb in pubs)

You can always challenge a barb from the player-match off forum to find ppl to duel with. If u want to a true player, (for barb) go look for either mcm, luis, mojosto, or anyone u know that is good. (no dumb wwdiner)

You are right about no max in pub games..

mcm, luis are on the american realms....I play on ladder Europe...cant challange them:P

then challenge someone who good at barb in ur realm and see if ur necro is truly good or not.

This is merely a suggestion, u dont have to do it since u can just be like this pub and still owning everyone. (that's why i think play in pubs is a waste of time)
 
I'd go stormshield definetly depending on whether you use marrows. Stormshields definetly > homonculous vs melee, only thing is it screws you when there are casters around.

when against caster, i use df.
