Spearzon experiences?

Last week someone mentioned he would be making a spearzon. The idea slowly grew on me and now I'm thinking about making one aswell. I cant really find any well written guides about them here or on SC. Hence my request for some experiences from those that build one. I've heard some gear suggestions from stoneraven to botd warpikes.

How bad is the fend bug, what can be done to play around it, whats the ultimate gear if resources would be unlimited etc..Thats the info Im looking for.

Anyone feel like selling this subclass to me? :)

imo best weapon = eth botd matri spear (+3 skills ofc)
with that u got enough ias & can use draculs to get by
havent figured out rest of the gear yet :p but coh would also be nice since she'll be needing lot of res from gear

gl with rest of gear

k, just tested in sp with following gear :
eth botd matri spear, shako, coh dusk, maras, 2*raven, draculs, gores & verdungo's
invent : 10 skillers & perf anni

needed 15points in str & 12 in dex to use it all, rest went to vit, total of about 10k ar & imo bit too low, fend dmg 3662-5411

fend bug : imagine yourself in middle of 20 monsters, first hit misses & fend will try & hit every monsters within range & will miss every time cause the first 1 missed, pretty serious if u ask me :s (5fpa attack, 5seconds per attack, 20 targets = 4seconds = sitting duck for 4 seconds)

just an example, hardly think its possible to be trapped in pack that big + being able to hit them all

My most recent spearmaiden is retired now (last ladder season) at lvl 87. She was awesome to play.

The basics:

(1) Fend sucks. Don't bother with it, as the bug is still there, and can get you into trouble. Jab is better for lightning immunes, which can be softened up with one of the poison skills if you choose that route. This build is basically a caster build, not a heavy melee build.

(2) LS & charged strike are pretty much as awesome as it gets. Her lightning strike can do massive damage, but the key is to have the monsters bunched up . Max LS, Charged Strike, and Power Strike (or LF if you choose to use javs on switch). Against lots of little guys: LS. Against one or two big guys: Charged strike.

(3) Like any caster, +skills are key. Also keep your life/mana leech up. Ideally, resists and defense will also be high, as you will be engaging enemies at close range.

(4) D/A/E skills should be at their usual slvl9-10 for this build.

(5) ~17+ into valk, as it helps to have a meat sheild you can count on.

(6) as far as weapon goes, I like the Lyc's Flank better than Stone Raven. Upgrade the Lyc's if you want, but the mods are just a little better on the Lyc's. If you can get the BotD Mat Spear, well, that'd be even better, but not necessary. I'd go with the Mat spear over the warpike, as you're going for +skills, not phys damage.

(7) Other equipment: the obvious. TGods, CoH/Lionheart/Up'ed Viper/etc, ravenfrost (a slowed spearmaiden is a dead spearmaiden), waterwalks, shako, etc.

(8) IM is your main worry. For that, your options are either go with a set of javs on switch, or use a low damage spear on switch (all the damage from LS is on the lightning), or rely on party members.

(9) learn to enjoy the idiots who say: "an ama who DOESN'T use LF? lol YOU NOOB!" LF is for gutless babies. Spears in hell HC is for real players.

That's all I can think off the top of my head. Good luck.

Thanks for the info guys. AoD I'd like that char file to test it out in sp :)

Nebby: great background info. I'll definately build it more or less according to your suggestion which seems to be a universal amazon basic setup. As for the matri spear..it would probably be better but the market for reselling is probably just to small. Since Im NL i might try and look for a L1 Upped Lyc' Flank but upping one myself is out of the question. I do have L2 chars but patience isn't one of my strong suits :)

Would you say a HF merc is better considering the fact that LS/CS will do most of the damage? I would have probably gone for a might one but that might be over the top if I do go for a botd warpike.

I would think a silence zon spear of some kind would be an outstanding weapon...

*+200% Enhanced Damage*
175% Damage vs. Undead
+50 to Attack Rating Against Undead
*11% Mana Steal*
*Hit Blinds Target*
*(20) Faster Hit Recovery*
*+2 to All Skills*
*All Resistances +75*
*20% Increased Attack Speed*
*+2 to Mana After Each Kill*
Hit Causes Monster to Flee 25%
*Requirements -20%*
*30% Better Magic Find*

Put that in a zon spear that already has some plus skills and you should rip stuff up. The key mods to a spearazon are marked with * as you can see there are many of them! The monster flee mod sucks, but it should be workable.

Flee = big nono imo..I dont like to chase them ;)

The other mods are trully great but that one mod screws it up and makes a Jah too expensive for this runeword.

i just rebuild that ama a little bit after what nebby said, works ok now imo

i'll send u the savegame when you're on irc, cant upload it myself :(

Very fun build imo. Basically a javazon w/o fury strike (havent made a plague zon yet).

While I havent tryed them in 1.10... in 1.09 I did the tankazon build with charged strike to great success. Its all about the passive skills asfar as staying alive goes.
Note: this was in 1.09

Personally, I haven't had much of a problem with the fend bug with my spearazon. It's a slower playing style, so I wind up switching to another character after an act or so. I'm probably going to rebuild mine though. I think I'm going to go with no d/a/e and a stronger decoy.

Have a read through this thread for ideas.

Adjust your spearazon to taste. If you're going with jab, go for crushing blow. If you're going for fend, go for deadly strike.

If all else fails make your way over to The Amazon Basin Spearazon Room.

I get many such comments when I sit on a channel with my hc 2h-sword tankazon. Yesterday I got this nice compliment: "hehe are you some f**kin' noob sword assa LOL :D"... actual quote... :)

Good to see at least some people have tried the build so its not completely dark territory ;)

Kryptmaker: thanks for the info, ill check it out. Was there earlier today and they lack a guide in their guide section so didnt bother to check forum..will do later tho ;)

Liessa: those comments are 40% of the reason for making it :)

AB uses a different format, but it's still pretty good. A quick search will come up with what you want.

I'll most likely go the complete physical route.
20 Fend
20 Penetrate (Or as needed)
12+ CS
10+ Decoy (The more health I have, the more she has. The longer she can take a beating for me.)

That should be a good starting point. I don't have my gear completely planned out, but I know I want a Passion Spear on switch. Hopefully I can put together enough +all skills for a 4-5 Zerk.

The problem with spearazons that want to hit multiple enemes at once with a physical attack (fend) is that it requires you to be in melee range of many monsters. This would not be a problem with the awesome dodging passives of an amazon but these through a bug now hurt your ability to attack, aka the circle of bullcrap. Of course this will probably never be fixed as 1.10 is the last client patch.

The trick is not to be in the middle, but to be on the outskirts. That's why I think a strong decoy is critical. It'll serve as a focal point for their attack, and then I can stand behind her and attack with impunity. :) Haven't made it far enough to test that theory in hell. I'll know by the end of this weekend. Hopefully I'll remember to post the results.

I would think that flee wouldn't be that much of a problem because monster only flee until they take dmg. Working under the assumption that spearazons play similarly to my javazon, I'd imagine that they won't make it very far before they get hit by lightning, not to mention that when clumped in packs they have trouble running away. When combined with the fact that this build would work great with HF, the aura dmg from HF should bring the monsters back no problem. The best way to do this build is probably a might merc with doom.

Silence simply has too many attibutes to ignore. How do you say no to huge mana leech, mana per kill, 75% resist (vital to shieldless builds in hell), decent dmg and the possibility of +5 jav/spear skills not to mention a ton of lesser benefits such as IAS, FHR, lower req and MF?

Because I can make up for it with for instance: coa (30) + coh (65) + mara (30) + rare ring with 30 fire+light res. Sure Silence is great, but I dont feel like spending a Jah on a runeword with flee which wont be used for pvp (hence near impossible to sell).

Doom polearm is on a merc now and will be transfered to this one..didnt even think about that, great point :)

Also I kinda have my mind set on using a Botd, I never have and since some nice L<>NL trades I can finally afford one..
