Something very wierd is going on
I bought my cds from my friend who lost his cd key, so i've just played single player so far. Yesterday I bought the Battle Chest at gamestop to see what online is like. Uninstalled the old game (kept saves), and went on bnet. It was fun, but I missed my powerful characters so I copied them back to /save/ and went back to single player for a bit.
It's a completely different game. I don't know how to explain it, my sorceresses are so much more powerful -- after static field hell mephisto died on two frozen orb hits (level 30). My bodygyard is better and worse -- he used to get creamed by the travincial council but now can hold his own against fire. He used to be immune to iron maiden but now takes damage. One run each of meph, diablo, and baal netted me Ondal's Wisdom, a rare jewel, a rare ring, an awesome necro head, and 2 excep. uniques and much better stuff than I usually get otherwise. Every enemy's life bar was shorter too -- Baal's was like 2 inches when it's usually like 1/3 of the screen (took about as long to kill, though). It's like I'm playing a different version.
Original CDs were version 1.09 that I downloaded patches for (since I couldn't connect to battle.net). Upgraded for 1.10, 1.11, and 1.11b when they came out. New CDs say 1.03 on the disc and I let battle net upgrade for me (it says 1.11 now) Atma says all my items are from the same version, but it's so damn wierd. Does this make sense to anyone?
