So anyone else had their characters disappear?

West Ladder. I haven't been playing much lately but this was out of the blue.

So 3 out of 5 of my accounts suddenly had all the characters gone. No offensive account name whatsoever. At least 1-3 characters were permed in each account and the last time I logged on was 2 days ago. 2 accounts were full of self-found uniques and sets, the last held some HRs.

My accounts were still there by the way, just that ALL 8 characters were gone. It allowed me to create a new character even.

I've heard others complain in-game and on other forums, so just wondering if anyone has had this over here. It appears to be completely random by the way so just a heads up for everyone.

I'm just glad this happened to my mule accounts, since I've heard others had this happen to their MAIN accounts, complete with numerous lvl 80+ characters.

Please let this be a temporary glitch :undecided:
 
characters expire after 2 months of not playing them, unpermed characters expire after 10 days. Make sure you log into your account regularly if you take a break

Well I understand that and this is not what you're describing, or I won't be starting a whole new thread about it.

When unpermed characters expire, to my knowledge, they stay on the account for awhile, displaying "character expired" and you won't be able to log them on when you try to.

To elaborate, what happend to me was: I logged on to an account which I had just logged on to 2 days ago and all my characters had just vanished.

This was the case for 3 of my accounts. No characters on them, nothing. The accounts are intact and bear no sign of tampering.

Well, I've just heard a few more people complain about the exact same thing so I know I'm not alone, just wondering if this is exclusive to West
 
If they have vanished completely, I believe someone has deleted them.
Maybe someone got your acc/pass somehow and got in?

I've never heard of this happening before.
 
This HAS happened before, it's been a couple of years or so since, but it has happened. I don't remember exactly what the problem was except that blizz' servers somehow went screwy.

Definately e-mail them about the problem they may be able to help you out.

But of course, if you signed up to one of those websites that give away free items in exchange for your acc + pw or somehow got a trojan/keylogger/whatever, then you're pretty much screwed.
 
Yea if someone figured your pass out then your screwed and blizz wont do anything to assist you, but if you didn't email them and you'll prolly get some assistance from blizzard in 1-2 years..
 
I'm 99.99% sure my this is a screw up with Blizzard's servers and has nothing to do with accounts being hacked, since heard quite a few other complains and it appears to be totally random, and they all happened around the same time.

I've had a friend say that his mule with 7 days left just expired on him as well by the way. West as well.

We're consolidating a list of our acccounts over at Bnet forums and deciding what we can do about this. I'm expecting more people to report this, unfortunately, when people start waking up on the West Coast :sad2:

Souns like hacks/scams to me. Wasn`t there someone else a few weeks ago posting about the same kind of experience? :scratch:

Sorry I didn't read your initial post more carefully; my bad.

As for your friends char that poofed when it had 7 days left, that displayed 7 days is based on your computer's clock/date and on the bnet server could be completely different; I've seen posts about this specifically before, and I never let my chars get down to less than 20 days from expiration becuase of this. On the flip side, I've had chars that stated they were expired, but I was able to go onto bnet with them anyways and "resurrect" them. So basically, the expiration is not an exact science with Bnet, and just because it's stated to be a certain date from expiration, doesn't make it so. Of course this in no way affects your characters that poofed 2 days after you used them..

Definitely contact Blizz, but somehow I don't think they'll do anything about it, let alone even respond; sorry for your loss though.
 
As I recall the characters and all their equipment were restored.
The problem was a kind of display error, the characters were never deleted or anything but since you coudn't see them you couldn't select them.

If the problem just went away by itself or blizzard did 'something' to fix it I don't know.

If the news archives go back far enough you might be able to find some info there.
 
I lost mine on one account also

I have 6 accounts and only one of them got totally wiped. It's the account I play the most and only had 5 toons on it. Played it Friday and logged in this morning all gone. I went to the folowing site:

You can submit your lost toons there and they will restore them.

I don't think it was from a hack since all my accounts are named the same with a number sequnce at the end and the password is the same. If you'd hack one you could hack them all.

I used this link a few months ago when I had a similar problem. IIRC, some of my chars said they had a 20-30 days left but when I tried to log onto them it said they were expired. Bliz fixed them right up. This won't help you if they are REALLY expired (90 days).

Now I gotta check all my accounts tonight... :undecided:
 
one of my chars names is F_ckwitME...cause i plan on having him be an absolute animal....for all those ppl who are quick to run their mouths they would get shut up real quick...would blizzard delete offensive names?
 
Err.... yes, Blizz can do that. However I think they never search specificaly for this, maybe if you got a ban for hacking or soomething. I don`t think that there is a separate department which deals with that kind of stuff. That would be a waste of funds I guess. Anyway since WoW came out Blizz doesn`t realy give a **** about d2. :cry:
 
It appears my memory sin't what it used to be. At least I haven't been able to find the news post I've been looking for, something something similar was mentioned november 6th 2001 though.

I haven't been through all of the archive so I may have missed it.
 
My buddy had the same thing happen to him with a softcore non-ladder account on USWEST, only had 2 characters on it but unfortunately one of them was his main character.

Fairly certain it's not hacked, just something messy with blizz's servers. Hopefully they'll get on it asap.

Just last night I had 2 accounts of characters disappear. They were all current, some on ladder some not, all US West. Thanks for the link to the recovery form, I'm going to give it a try.
 
ok to much posts to read, is there a conclusion, i really want to know whats first explanation for these strange things

he say on chars was with high runes, prolly he lost cuz was some dupes there
 
The consensus I'm seeing is that everyone reporting this problem is on USWest, it happens to people randomly and not because of duping or dupes or hacking, and it seems to be a server problem. Also, just a few days ago ninjafreak666 read all 90-some pages of the insanity that is the Off-Topic thread, so I don't think 19 measly posts is too much to read through.
