Smiter and Grief?

I am building a Smiter. I am now trying to make or trade for grief. Its seems that most people want a phase blade grief. Is there an advantage to making grief in a phase blade vs. any other sword when it comes to smite damage?

The reason Pb is used over a weapon like BA is that when made in a Pb it gives alot of speed allowing you to hit the 6 fps smite speed with very little ias from gear needed.

Also in extreme cases if you duel against a char using Doom which slows with Holy freeze + clegs and arch, Pb will still allow you to hit the 6 fps smite with a few gear changes for ias.

Also another plus about Pb is that its indestructable.


The Zweihander sword is anther good choice to make a Grief in due to good base weapon speed as well and better range.

He asked about smiters, Zweihander as the name implies,is 2h. And since smiters are pallies and 2hand swords cancell their shield,zwei is not an option.

if im correct, and i like to think that i am sometimes....a grief pb hits the last smite pb automatically doesnt it?

No, with like 8% ias to be more exact. But a grief gets 30-40% ias so it's already covered.

yes thats what i mean, since it needs so little ias to hit the bp, its taken care of because even with the slowest grief you still hit the bp

Hm if I think it's right, you gotta have a maxed fana aura and a grief PB with 35%ias ->(Or 34 not sure). so if you have below that ias you gotta have IAS gloves, so get 35ias+ now!

Most smiters have fanatic aura active and maxed. That means with any grief phase,you automatically hit max smite speed,no matter what is the ias of grief, 30 ,40% or in between.

yeah that rite the Zweihander is 2 handed yeah that more of a barb choice of weap.

But ideally though the Pb is used in most cases due to the speed and does not break but does have is only range 2.
