Selling Characters Online

Anyone ever done this? I think It's time to quit, and I have a lot of good pkers. I was wondering if I would get more money keeping them all on the accounts they're on, or remaking every pker so it's on it's own account (I think this would get more money. . .except my level 92.5 druid. .I'd probably get him to 93, then sell him) Plus I don't think people would want the ASG tag. .I could remake them with generic names. . .or do people just buy accounts and steal the items? I dunno. . never done anything like this before. . .

And I don't think this is against the rules. .I'm not promoting any site (I didn't even say which site, but I bet you could guess which one it is. . .) I'm just asking a question. :innocent:

Also, do you need a credit card for a paypal account if you just want to sell things. .? Can't I just have the money depostited into an account. . .oh and is it good to make a new bank account for things like this just to be safe?

Thanks for any help.

you do need a credit card to create a paypal account. besides that, i would avoid EBAY like the plague. your only feeding the beast by selling your accounts on EBAY.

Lol yeah I know buying things online for a game is pathetic, but I'm gonna sell my stuff so I can get money for all the time I've wasted on this game Lol ;/

So you need a credit card for paypal. .damn.

Even if selling your accounts on eBay is just like Scruffy said, "Feeding the beast", You could make some good cash off from it.
My friend got a nice 50$ just selling his main account on eBay.

Which is why I'm gonna do it. I bet I could get more than $50 though. . (I hope)

I don't have a credit card though. . .

use your parents...or if you don't live with them...ask for cash-by-mail

I dunno if they have a credit card. .but I know they have debit cards. .do those work?

I didn't even think of cash-by-mail, good idea.

sell any of your ladder accounts and by the gods I will kill you in teh face with a vicious puppy!.

Finally, somebody asks a question I'm competent enough to answer! :surprise:
Yes, debit cards work just fine. If you're going to do much in the way of buying (not d2 items, that's bad, but other things online) I wouldn't recommend it though, as Paypal treats it as an e-check and can take 4-5 buisness days, so sometimes it takes over a week for them to even receive your payment.
If you don't want to go that route, cashieers checks or money orders are a bit safer than cash is, as it would be dumb for someone to take them. Most people won't take checks, so that isn't much of an issue.
Another option is things like Western Union, just get the $$ wired to you. If you browse around enough you may see the banner they have on this site, that's what made me think of it actually.
As for the selling of individual characters vs. whole accounts, I'm not entirely sure what I'd do, but based on what I've seen while browsing for fun, it seems as though people will pay quite a bit for accounts with multiple characters. Maybe split it up into two or three accounts, instead of making a new account for each character...who knows.
It seems awfully risky to buy an account online though. How do you know that the second the $$ trades hands and you get the name//pass that they won't use the e-mail feature to reset the pass or something? I don't know, not saying you're not trustworthy, but I wouldn't want to buy an account from someone I didn't know and trust from the real world.

My 2 cents...or more like 6 or so I'd guess.

Yeah I don't really get the e-mail recovery part of it..I was just gonna request and e-mail change or w/e you do and send it to them. . .

Hm, so you don't need a credit card. . .that's good. I'll have to talk with my mom then and see if she'll let me sell them. :)

I should sell my accounts so I can pay for my EQ2 subscription...

And to you WoW people, a hack is in beta and on the way for that game. :-(

as far as i remember you dont need a credit card, unless you plan to use it to pay for purchases. bank account works too. they verify you through your bank account, sending 2 small deposits to your bank account then ask you to tell them what they sent you, then you are verified.

and hey asg, if ya decide to quit its gonna be a sad day to see ya go, hope you still decide to come kick it around the boards. and if ya wanna trade off some of that oh so godliness  lemme know.

I havn't used my main characters in over a month.

I've been playing untwinked with a friend, but that's about it. I plan to come back next ladder, but for now I don't need my pkers, and I might as well get some cash for them.

It's better to sell an entire account full of goodies and godlies than to separate them into different accounts. If you are able to create a really good ad you could potentially make more dough for one loaded account. When I sold my last D2 account I didn't pay the extra 5 bucks on Ebay to make it a priority listing (a listing that will come out on top when a search for D2 stuff is made). It sucks because I sold it only for about $100. The guy who bought it from me resold it for $300 because he used the priority listing option.

Anyway, since you don't have a credit card, the easiest way would be to use money order. It's not going to be as quick and efficient but it's safer than sending cash through the mail.

Ebay/Paypal both accept bank accounts to establish identity credentials. If you have a bank account you could well use them for this purpose.

I have my own bank account, is it safe to use it with paypal though, or should I try and get a new one. . .

I didn't think people would pay in huge ammouns of cash, so I figured it'd be easier to sell each character seperate..but I guess people do pay a lot. . .Lol.

I'll do that priority listing thing if I do it I guess.
