Search for a D2 "Chat" program

Hi all!

I was wondering if anyone knew of an external program that I could use to log onto a Diablo 2 Realm-Chat Channel - For those times I have internet access, and no Diablo 2 installed (External Locations) yet still want to chat to friends in the realms.

Preferably one that would NOT get me banned for chatting to friends :)

I am aware of the whole "No third party programs, even ones that don't actually provide an advantage" policy, but I'm looking for a program outside of the actual game (Hopefully resulting in me not being banned :p)

As far as I know, there is no such programs. I recall being able to telnet into the bnet servers, but that was blocked long ago.

In short, you need to install D2 to chat in D2.

The only thing that really comes to mind would be something like Teamspeak or Ventrillo. They allow you to talk to other people that are also using those applications. Many WoW guilds use either of these and many other groups in different games also use this. Some may have a free service but both are pay to use.

As I feared :<

I'm worried about googling for external chat programs for fear of getting banned, which is why I asked in here :|

Whilst highly useful, not everyone on Battle.Net has it - And I was more looking for random in-game chatting to friends (Update on drops / char development / etc)

I'd also prefer to type more than chat to keep the whole "online anonymity" bit :)

Good point Gorny, TS and Vent are both free and work well (I'm a fan of Vent myself).

I think the OP is asking about something to interact with bnet servers tho, as stated here:

But, yah, Vent and/or TS would work for chatting. :)

There's always IM. or even mIRC.

I wish ;)

Although players who are playing are generally playing (Even just chatting in realm channels), and not on IRC :)

Pretty sure op means a bot.

Concerning moderation bots, blizzard found them harmless as long as you were to follow the rules. I don't know if their policy changed on these

I've seen moderation bots in channels (Cool avatars!)

How do these moderation bots... Get there?

probably some acceptable d2 program that is distributed by moderators in the channel.
