Ranbow Facet Problem

I started an IK barb over the weekend. I have never done a barb without a shield and I have to say he is lots of fun. He hit 47 last night and now wears three of the six set pieces. I have the whole set on a mule. I also have a rainbow facet and I'd like to put that jool on him. Its the one with + to cold skills and 100% chance to cast lvl 43 frost nova on level up.

Can someone give me a reason not to do this? I think it would be cool to watch, but I hold back a little as I could see this guy being a backup mfer and could use the empty slots for mf or ias.

Thoughts?

I can give you about 100 reasons not to do it.

1) even if you have a perfect 5/5 cold facet the differance in damage will be miniscule. A friend of mine has 3 5/5 colds on his orb sorc and it only raised it 90 points from 715 - 8xx. So imagine what it ll do to the small amount of cold on set

2) The Frost nova on lvl up is cool for 1 lvl then its just there. Its not enough to do any real damage to be a benefit.

4) The given sockets can be better utalized with shaels / ed-ias jewels / P Topazes

5) The value of cold facets is really silly and you could trade them for other gear that would be more useful.

My IK barb has ptopaz in his sockets. I'd rather have the nice gold/green items than an extra few points for killing. Plus, with too much cold you might blow them up and not be able to hork the dead body.
 
Thanks for the feedback guys. If you had that ranbow (its a +3 +3) what would you do with it? Besides trade, that is.
 
i dont know what id do with that one, but ialways wanted to make a clvl49 char with 17 5/5 fire facets that casts high level meteor upon death and enter a dueling game and fight to the death.....

The "only" was to compare what damage his orb was raised vs what the amount it would be raised in IK set

it would cast 1 but that was mentioned before.

1 meteor with the chance of 1700%. i think that 1 meteor cast is a sure happening ;)

I also made an IK barb over the weekend, he is lvl81 now. I wouldn't use the cold facet though especially a 3/3 one. I threw a ral and ort in the helm for more fire and light res. I would go that route or prubys or ptopaz. I socketed the armor but haven't put anything in there yet. I'm hoping to get an ed jewel with res on it or ias.
 
Heh, nicely done. Takes me a lot longer, but I'll get there. Hit 49 last night, he now uses bloodtree stump.

Nice. Yeah I don't know how I got done with him so fast because I wasn't home very much over the weekend. Guess I found some good games to quest then some good ones to level I guess. He does quite well in hell baal runs, sometimes has trouble when there is IM floating about and have to switch to zerk when there are about 80 of those flying broads shooting tons of the red amping balls. Also lister and his pack almost got me before because he was mana burn plus other mods. I only have like 1xx mana if he hits me once during a WW my mana pool just disappears and my WW kinda stops while I am poisoned but I just pop juvs until I am unlocked and WW out. No big deal. Seeing that it is my first IK barb I am very pleased how he has turned out.
