Questions regarding +Throw Mastery on a barb hat

Hello all, I've been searching high and low for a barb hat with +Throw Mastery and 3 open sockets. I've been running countless normal and nm cows for it (well, either for that, or a white one w/ the skills that I'll socket quest)

The first question I have is about actually spawning +Throw Mastery on a hat. An interesting trend I've noticed is that there seems to be FAR more hats with +spear mastery for example, than Throw or Sword mastery. I'm guessing that this is just luck of the draw, because it seems intuitively logical that there'd be the same chance of getting one mastery skill as the next. Furthermore, there's lots of other masteries that I see commonly (such as +stamina, +speed, iron skin and so on). However, in all my searching, I have yet to find one +Throw mastery, and I don't recall seeing a +sword mastery either. Are these particular +skills rarer than the others for some reason, or am I just seeing a disproportionate sample based on the relatively small number (I'd guesstimate about 100) barb hats that I've found?

Secondly, if I do manage to find a +throwing mastery hat in normal cows, will it get 3 sockets? I know this has to do with the ilvl of the item, which is equal to the mlvl of a normal hell bovine, but I can't seem to locate the mlvl chart, and I'm not sure where to look up the minimum ilvl needed to get max sockets with a socket quest.

+Sword Mastery spawns for sure, but I don't remember seeing a +Throw Mastery helm before - of course I've never really looked for one either.

Normal Cows are level28 (30 for champs, 31 for bosses). I don't remember if that's high enough for 3 sockets or not, but you can check with the sockets list link in my signature.

Sword Mastery is a tier 1 skill, which means it only has a chance to spawn on item level (ilvl) <=24 Barbarian helms: this means such a helm should only drop in Normal.

Throwing Mastery is a tier 2 skill, which means it only has a chance to spawn on ilvl <= 36 Barbarian helms: this means such a helm should only drop in Normal, and from normal monsters in the Blood Moor, Den of Evil, Cold Plains, Cave Level 1 and Burial Grounds in Nightmare.

Spear Mastery is a tier 3 skill, which means it has a chance to spawn on any ilvl 12+ Barbarian helm: this means such a helm can drop in Normal, Nightmare and Hell, which is why it's much more common.

Only ilvl 26+ Barbarian helms can get three sockets, so Hell Bovines in Normal could drop a Barbarian helm with + TM and be able to get three sockets.

* Druid and Barbarian class helms can have 3 sockets right from the start.

I know I`ve come across such a helm at low level with a barbarian in a single-pass tournament where it gave a nice MF advantage (extra sockets for topazes) thats why I remember this.

Edit@below: then that helm must have been ilvl26 or very close to that, as that was very early in the game:scratchchin:
Hopefully there aren`t too many errors like that in the wiki :yes:

The Wiki is wrong, at least for the most recent patch (although that probably means v1.10+).

I found a Fanged Helm in the Tamoe Highland and gave it to Larzuk to socket: he should give it its maximum number of sockets, and he gave it two.

According to ItemTypes.txt, Barbarian helms (Primal helms) have 2 entered in the MaxSock1 column, which means that item level (ilvl) < 26 helms can have a maximum of two sockets: they have 3 entered in the MaxSock25 and MaxSock40 columns, which means all ilvl 26+ helms can have a maximum of three sockets. The same applies to Druid pelts.

I just found a jawbone cap in a pub trist run while leveling my LLD throw barb:

+3 throwing mastery
+1 spear mastery
+1 howl
too bad, it spawned with 1os........ why oh why...
