question about speeds of swords

ok i just found a eth colossus sword from baals minions. 0 sockets (go me)

i know theres a speed difference between the sword and blade, can somebody explain this to me?

im not rich so BotD is out for me. but there is another rune word in my grasp. oath

would this sword be good for a ww barb? i wasnt going to attempt a ww barb this season but luck changed and the only mid rune needed is mal. can get that easy. worth using these runes to make oash colossus sword? can get a storm for him as well

(slight little story to amuse u about a trade game) a friend was trading hate keys for a dest key. this guy came in and didnt have room for the amount of keys my friend was selling. he dropped his unid storm on the floor (dont think he knew) they traded and he left game leaving his storm on the floor. *bing* ill have that thank you. so hes a storm and dest key richer at the cost of 3 hate keys :thumbsup:

but 2 main points noted in this post. oath in CS worth it? and whats the speed difference :wave:
 
A collosus sword has a weapon speed of 10 and a normal attack speed. A collosus blade has a weapon speed of 5 and a fast attack, this is in the hands of a barbarian. As far as the numbers go and all the technical junk, i don't know. I'm just going by britton's PDF files.

Also of note, the collosus blade can have 6 sockets, while the collosus sword has a max of 5 sockets. I haven't made/used oath so i can't comment on that. Hope this was remotely helpful.

It's 44% IAS for a CS (which has a base speed of 10) and 39% for a CB.

As already said, keep in mind that your CS will get 5 sockets from Larzuk, not 6 (which you seem to assume because you mentioned BotD).

Yes I still live in the world of SP, where we have no WIAS source of IAS that is not dividable by 5. No Grief :( for example. Krischan is right. I should be more accurate next time.
 
well i know my sword will get 5. and oath is a 4 socketed word. so if i was to use the cube and get sockets? could that ruin my sword? would it just be better to trade if off?

i dont think you are gonna get anything mentionable for the sword if selling it (if anyone even want to buy it at all)

I would try my luck with the cube and hope for 4 sockets - with the 50%ias on oath you would hit the last ww bp.
 
I would actually post the blade in the trade forums and hope someone who has a 4 socket eth CB will trade for yours. Your chance of getting 4 sockets using the cube recipe is 1 in 6: IE not good. People do have an interest in ethereal non socket weapons as they can use the socket quest to get max sockets on the weapon. Therefore, someone needing a 6 socket eth CB for BotD will want your sword.
I have a 4 socket ethereal Conquest blade and I also have an ethereal 4 socket Balrog Blade if you are on West ladder

He has en eth Colossus Sword not Blade. Max sockets is 5 and hence not for botd. I cant think of any other runeword for eth CS than Oath (maybe Death but it would be sooo slow). So i still say gogo cube 4 soc :)
 
Actually a Colossus Sword is the best 2 handed sword for Oath. It hits last wwbp, and has the highest average damage of all 2 hand swords. So might as well try your luck with the cube.
 
A CS has a rather high str req, so I would make Oath into it only if used two-handed or by a WW barb. For others (i.e. those who don't need reach 3 as much as a WW barb), there are better weapons for one-handed use, e.g. small crescents or ettin axes. Oath scourges are probably great weapons for frenzy barbs - until you have Stormlash or Grief PBs :smiley:
