Question About Socket Quest

Since i dont pay much attention to the stats of the game, I have a quick question about socketing. [hypethetical mode on/] Say I find a nice sup archon plate. Say i want 3 sockets in it. Is there any way i could get this and if so is there anyway to gaurentee its three soc?[/hypethetical mode off] Im talking about the lazuruk quest if there is any confusion.

Thanks in advance!

No.

Larzuk will give the maximum number of sockets based on type and ilvl; on an elite armor the ilvl should be high enough to always get the max. So, Larzuk will give you 4 sockets.

The only way to get 3 sockets would be to find a damaged/cracked one, repair it using the cube recipe, and give that to larzuk: the repair recipe will set the ilvl to 1.

However, "superior" and "damaged" are mutually exclusive, as they are different values for the same thing :-)

Blast... I thought this may be the case since there arent very many 3 soc archon out there. Thx for clearing things up

There is a cube recipe that may give you 3 sockets depending on a couple of factors. Normal armor* + Tal, Thul and perfect Topaz. Look in the horadric cube section under expansion recipies on Diabloii.net

*Says not cracked, superior or damaged....normal armor only.

But archon is elite isnt it?

Item type doesn't matter, so normal, exceptional, and elite armours can be used in the cube recipe.

What does matter is item quality - only normal quality armours can be used. Therefore superior, cracked, damaged, etc . . . items can't be used.

25%, since Elite armors have a high ilvl. From the Arreat Summit:

1 Tal Rune + 1 Thul Rune + 1 Perfect Topaz + Normal Body Armor = Socketed Body Armor of same type
The number of sockets created will vary. The item must be normal and unsocketed. Low-quality items and superior items do not work. The item gets 1-4 sockets, randomly. However, the number of sockets is then restricted by the maximum number of sockets that base item with that ilvl can have. For example, if you have an item that can only have 2 sockets, there's a 3/4 chance of getting 2 sockets and a 1/4 chance of getting 1 socket.

This should say 5/6 chance of getting 2 sockets and a 1/6 chance of getting 1 socket.

Agree with Oscuro, as I was under the impression the cube recipe took a maximum of six sockets and simply increased the likelyhood of the highest possible socket amount if the highest possible on cubed item was less than six.
