question about rerolling rare runic talons in cube

how does rerolling rares in the cube using the 6 pskulls + rare weapon affect
the ilvl of the resulting weapon assuming a high level character is used

I was gonna imbue a regular runic talon (with 2 to blades of ice since staffmods don't carry) but before I do I need to insure that the ilvl stays high enough to roll fools swiftness as well as any other mods i forgot to mention

in short I won't have to toss them after so many rerolls?

If you keep rerolling with the same char over and over the ilvl will eventually even out after around the 4th or 5th reroll, and then remain unchanged. It all depends on the original ilvl though.

In short, you won't have to toss those runic talons after a certain amount of rerolls no. Runic talons have a high qlvl and thus will -always- have at least an alvl of 61, regardless of it's ilvl (even if it's ilvl was 1). The Fools prefix has an lvl of 50 while the Quickness suffix has an alvl of 46, both of which are within range of the runic talons lowest alvl.

Basically, if you don't care about the staffmods then re-roll the runic talons with any clvl char, because it doesn't matter. If you do care about the staffmods though then you'll want to determine what staffmods you desire most and try to get the ilvl to end up in one of those brackets to increase the odds of getting them.

The ilvl will settle at 2/3 of the character, perhaps minus 1 because of rounding.

You can reroll it endlessly. That's a nice way of having control over staffmods and affixes, but it's also a nice way to empty whole mule accounts full of skulls :azn:

As we are in the stats forum, I'm allowed to torment you with the (pseudo-)mathematical background

The 6 skulls recipey calculates the ilvl like this: In the equation ilvl = int(.4 * clvl) + int(.4 * old_ilvl)

Set old_ilvl=ilvl (to indicate that it doesn't change anymore) and solve the equation by ilvl.

That's not a mathematical proof, but it's enough for the scope of this forum, I guess.

So what level should you be if you wanted staff mods like +2 assa and +3 light sentry?

+2 assassin skills isn't a staffmod. It's an affix that has an alvl req of 50 for claws, and therefore within the runic talons lowest alvl range as mentioned above, so you don't need to worry about ilvl at all for this.

For the +3 lightning sentry staffmod though, that's a Tier 5 staffmod. If you wanted to have the highest chance of getting this then the resulting ilvl will need to be greater than 36. As long as the clvl of the char rerolling the rare runic talons is 55 or greater you should be right.

Another question, how would it look it you chose to use a Greater tallon?

On the staffmod's side of things it's the same, so you can still do the same as above.

On the affix side of things though it's different. The qlvl of the greater talon's ensure that the lowest possible affix available to it is 25. Now this affix level is not sufficient to get +2 to assassin skills, or the fools prefix, so you'll need to rely on the re-roller's clvl.

In order for a pair of greater talon's to get alvl 50, it needs to have an ilvl of 75. If you re-roll a rare pair of runic talon's with a clvl 99 char the ilvl will eventually event out to 65, too low for +2 assassin skills.

So basically, you can't keep re-rolling a pair of rare greater talon's and hope to get +2 to assassin skills, because eventually it's going to get too low to be able to do so.
