Question about Pride

Just a small question aboot the Pride Runeword for Act2 Mercs.

What would be the best Polearm to use? A Normal ethereal, or an Elite ethereal?

I'm asking this because the Runeword itself doesn't have any Enhanced Damage:

Cham + Sur + Io + Lo
25% Chance To Cast Level 17 Fire Wall When Struck
Level 16-20 Concentration Aura When Equipped (varies)
260-300% Bonus To Attack Rating (varies)
+1-99% Damage To Demons (Based on Character Level)
Adds 50-280 Lightning Damage
20% Deadly Strike
Hit Blinds Target
Freezes Target +3
+10 To Vitality
Replenish Life +8
1.875-185.625% Extra Gold From Monsters (Based on Character Level)

Now, my Zon will be running Chaos 99% of the time, which is why I came to this crossroad. With a Normal ethereal polearm, Iron Maiden won't be as deadly as using an Elite ethereal. I know the Concentraton Aura + Mercenary's Might Aura + Fanataicism Aura from Faith will obviously add a tonne of damage, but surely can't be enough to 1 shot a Lvl 90+ mercenary in Hell.. could it?

Your ideas and opinions are most welcome!

P.S. It was either this option, or trading my Faith Matriarchal Bow for a normal bow that an A1 Rogue could use - but I made my Faith by myself so I'm a little obsessed with keeping it =S

Well, if u dont want ur merc to die, dont make it in eth polearms, use something like a voulge. 6-21 dmg. With ~220 str, ~250% might, ~300% conc, ~150% faith, 90% to demon, and 100% base from str, thats like 1100%. plus generally ur merc has his own base dmg of ~60, so with another 21 base, u'd be lookin at ~900-1000 physical dmg. If u smacked some monsters with 1k and IM on u, thats gonna be some mega dmg.

I think he would die in 1-2 hits, but having DR gear on a merc helps a lot against IM, shaft + gaze gives 50% DR and has life leech leech. LL is based of physical damage but it would still help. Uming the shaft and gaze would be the best option as well. Other option is COA and COH, but this is costly.

Best option really for bowzon running chaos a lot is A1 merc faith while you use WF.

Note that this is my opinion.

@Smackin - Yeah I thought about all the auras that both the Merc + myself would share and it's a ridiculous amount. I haven't seen any Pride's being used this Ladder season, nor have I seen any for sale, so I was unsure what the standard weapon to use is.

@Sehnsucht - Hmm I spose packing him with DR might be worthwhile. The other option I thought of was to just remove his weapon and keep his Might aura handy while I do all the killing. As for the WF option, I understand that this is the "best" option, but unfortunately I like my Faith too much to give it up. I'll just let the Merc take the beating lol.

Wait, socketed items are never cracked right? That ruins another idea...

Also, as already stated, don't make it in an eth

low damage may save him against IM, but it's also going to drastically reduce his ability to leech...

Pride has no weapon ed at all. The merc damage will be on the low side anyway.
