Question about moving Diablo from laptop to desktop

I have 1.11 installed on my desktop and 1.07 installed on my laptop. However, I would like to move 1.07 to my desktop too. I'm installing DII from scratch now on my desktop and won't upgrade this version to 1.11, so I figure that won't be a problem. Or will it? I'm also not sure what I need to copy from my laptop to get my stashes and characters working ok on my desktop.

For stashes, do I need to copy both the .d2x file and all the .org files?

For characters, I'm guessing I can just copy the entire save folder and it will work fine?

Is there anything I'm overlooking/forgetting/doing wrong/etc?

I appreciate the help.

Re: Question about moving Diablo from laptop to desktop

I don't think it would be a problem, and I think that its just the .d2x files you need. Characters should just be copying the save folder, yes. Might want someone else to confirm the .d2x thing first though, as I'm not completely sure on that

Re: Question about moving Diablo from laptop to desktop

iirc the .org files are backups..

as for characters, saving the whole folder should be fine =)

Re: Question about moving Diablo from laptop to desktop

Ok everything seems to be working great except for one thing. When I open my 1.11 DII, on the character screen, my 1.07 characters appear, even though they're in a separate DII folder and everything. My 1.11 characters are nowhere to be found. What can I do to fix this? Thanks again for the help.

Re: Question about moving Diablo from laptop to desktop

up[grade to 1.11 and all your 1.11 chars will be available. or just use threnshadow version switcher to have both 1.07 1.09 1.10 1.11 on the same computer

Re: Question about moving Diablo from laptop to desktop

Well the 1.11 version is already upgraded to 1.11... obviously. Not sure what you mean.

There's no easy way I can get my 1.11 characters to appear on the 1.11 character screen?

Re: Question about moving Diablo from laptop to desktop

Do I really need to use the version switcher to be able to play 1.07 and 1.11 on the same computer?

I have both versions installed in separate folders, but when I open my 1.11 DII, the 1.07 characters appear on the character screen. I don't understand what I need to to do fix this. Is it not possible to fix this without using the version switcher? If anyone can help me I'd really appreciate it.

Re: Question about moving Diablo from laptop to desktop

I just rename the directories from 107diablo II to diablo ii when I want to play. I have a fake directory in the d2 directory called 1.07 or 1.11 or whatever so I can identify what each version is.

I'm sure Trenshaw must be easier but I never worked out how to use it.

D2 stores the path of the save directory in the registry. If you want to use separate save directories for different versions, there are basically two ways to do it manually:

1) Change the registry entry to the correct path before playing.
2) Switch the save directories before playing.

Option #2 is probably simpler for most people.

Thanks for the help muzz. I tried switching save directories and it does indeed work. It messes up ATMA though since the save files change location, so I'd prefer to go with option 1) here. Can you (or anyone) tell me where in the registry the save path is saved?

Or alternatively, what should I do to get both 1.07 and 1.11 working without having to mess around with this? Get the version switcher working? I searched for it but couldn't find one that was updated for 1.11, the only one I could find only included up to 1.10.

Thanks again.

With the switcher you just use your normal shortcut to play the latest version.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Blizzard Entertainment\Diablo II

I'm no expert on the switcher, but from what I've read you can hand-build a 1.11 directory for it. Note which files are in the 1.10 directory, and copy the same files from your regular 1.11 installation.

Re: Question about moving Diablo from laptop to desktop

I figured it would be better to bump this slightly old topic rather than start a whole new one.

I got the version switcher (1.07 and 1.11) working perfectly thanks to muzzz and everything is awesome except that RRM and RWM isn't installed and I'm not sure if it's possible when using the version switcher. Where do I put the RWM/RRM folders? Will the .vbs file still work if it's not in the "right" folder? Do I move all files to the RRM/RWM folder?

Does anyone use both the version switcher and RRM/RWM and can help me out? Thanks.

Re: Question about moving Diablo from laptop to desktop

you don't need to have 1.11 run with vbs. i just instaled diablo normally uppgraded to 1.11, then copy 1.07, 1.09 1.10 folders in diablo folder. 1.11 version is rwm rrrm made like always, for rest just use vbs script
