PvM ultimate warrior

hello all, first let me introduce myself.
I am Oni on the West ladder. but u all can call me beautiful.:jig:
i have 88amazon and 85barb.
ok, so i have a good feeling about this setup..
currently i am getting ready to create the ultimate hunting barbarian.
the items i have ready for him is
weapon -BoTD eth colossus Blade
shield - Pheonix sup Aegis
helm - Arreats sock/40ED15max
neck- Chaos Noose OR metalgrid (i cant decide)
armour- Fort. sacred armour OR 2skill Arkaine's valor sock/40ed15ias (icd)
rings- Raven / rare 8ll,ar,19str,all res
belt- verdungos
glove- Rends
boot- WarTravs OR GoreRider. (icd)
Inventory- anni, torch, warcriesGc,MasteriesGc,SkillsGc, and the rest is max or pd or fd Sc's.

so....my question is,

1. whats the best strategy for this setup? i was thinking zerk or wW.
i read both Radu's zerk guide and razgriz ww guide.
2. should i be like what the heck... ill do both!.
like, maxing WW and maybe 10 on berzerk?
3.what should stats be like.. strength while maxing Vitality since Zerk will be used by my index finger?
4. did i go wrong by putting 15max instead of 15ias in my arreats?
5. am i better off going 2handed ? do auras stack? e.g redemption from pheonix + might and conviction from merc.
6** if any of you barbarian pro's can help me decide with comparos and what not for the (i cant decide) parts. :innocent:

this is my second barb so i wanted this time to be much better.
i guess a girl likes to be perfect.
any suggestions are welcome but please no rude gestures.

well hi there!

i'm not really a pro, but i'm very fond of my collection of barbs^^
so maybe i can help just a little...

rude gestures???? where do you think you are

1. strategy?? just play

2. one point in berzerk should be enough, which is a must against PIs anyway.
put those 9 points you save in war cry. this will put you in a safe zone while fighting those nasty PI ghosts with mana leech.
since berserk "erases" your complete defense you'll also be grateful that you can easily kill one by one of your enemies without them even moving...

3. as usual put just as many points in str as you need for your equip, which is quite something in your case (sacred:rolleyes: but i have to admit it looks really cool!!)

4. 15max jool is better for a ww barb since only weapon ias counts for ww-speed.

5. yes, different kinds of auras do stack. (does one really call that stack?)
only same auras won't stack. e.g. might from last wish and might from merc...
in which case the higher aura will be used.
since you wear phoenix i think that 1-handed>>>2-handed.
not only because of the extra defense, but also because of the blocking ability!

i know my english sucks, but i tried

p.s. there is nothing like a perfect barb;-)

2 things

40ed/15max jewel in your arreat's is a mistake, because of a bug this jewel works like 40 enhanced _minimum_ damage and +15 _max_ damage. The 40ed does not get applied to the max damage

phoenix is not well known for its blocking abilities

ok, 3rd thing then, what do you mean by "hunting barbarian" ?

Yes, as stated, the ed/max jewel doesn't work properly in helms/armor/shields, so you should clear out that socket and put something else in there. It literally doesn't do much for you.

In terms of damage with whirlwind:

Dual 1h Weapons > 2h Weapon > Single 1h Weapon

Do not split points between two attack skills; pick one and stick with it. Best bet would be 20 whirlwind/20 BO/20 Mastery, with 20 in shout if you're PvM, and one point in berserk, battle command, natural resist, and increased speed.

Gear: Amulet should be replaced with Highlord's Wrath (not too expensive), and I would drop Phoenix either for another weapon, or for stormshield. The reasoning behind this is that if you wanted more damage, another weapon would be better, while if you wanted blocking, Stormshield is superior. Phoenix is rather weak.

i think 20 points in shout a little bit heavy.
i usually make my barbs with 1 point shout and 1 point iron skin.
together with sacred forti you reach about 15k def (with triggered chilling armor) which is about enough for most situations.

i still recommend warcry for the occasional berserk use...

wow.. these are some very useful responses thank you guys!
now, i do agree 20 shout would be bit too much? just my opinion but maybe investing those points on iron skin is better? but i guess there is a reason you are a moderator. heehee..=D ok, so.. if i go 1 point on zerk, warcry is a must.. i get that, but, how many points? just 1? so im gonna have alot of points left to spend? thanks again for the speedy response gentlemen!

IIRC, Shout and iron Skin add the same amounts... no, I mean increases with the same amount of % Defense with each point. I think it's +10%. The only difference is that Shout will be on your Mercenary too, and at the same time it's a damage synergy to Berserk. And it adds to BO time as well.

Do you suggest switching to highlords mainly for the deadly strike bonus?

Yep, the deadly strike is infinitely more valuable than the mods on pretty much any other amulet.

In regards to shout: it is vastly superior to ironskin, and a wonderful place for 20 points. Ironskin starts at 30% defense, +10%/point, and scales to 220%. Shout, on the other hand, starts at 100% defense, +10%/point scaling to 290%, and extends to your merc/party/friendly units as well. It also increases berserk damage by 10%/point invested, and boosts Battle Command/Battle Orders durations. Excellent, excellent skill. Keep in mind that to receive the damage/duration benefits, you must actually spend points, since +skills don't affect synergies. As such, It's much more beneficial to invest in shout and let +skill gear raise Ironskin, as it has no synergy effects.

one question.
if my a2 might merc is equipped with Doom, will the Might aura AND holy freeze aura work at the same time? or am i better off with using thresher decrepify

thx guys
pp~

like i said before: yes, they will both work:wink3:

only one thing: when your merc dies you will have to re-equip his weapon for the aura to work again!

Is that true? I don't remember having to do that with my Might/Doom merc. I'm sure he died at some point whilst playing, but I don't recall ever re-equipping him. I might be confused on that.

Still, Might Merc + Doom + Ral'd Andy's Visage is a great set-up.

If you want the aura from the item after you resurrect him, yes you have to re-equip the item.

If you join a new game after you resurrect there is no need to re-equip.
