Problems with CD rom drive

I tried installing diablo 2 and expansion on my older computer, but the CD-rom drive is giving me problems with not being able to read the disk. I was able to install classic, and I think I was able to instal expansion. It reads it sometimes, but usualy after I try taking it out and puting it back in afew times, but the expansion disk is not working in it at all with the exeption of that 1 time. It works in my other computer just fine. Anyone know of any solutions? I already tried mapping a network drive to the CD rom drive on my other computer, but that didn't work :( I heard that puting tape on the top of the CD rom might help, but I don't remember the spicifics and don't want to do it wrong and mess it up more.

i have a possible solution:

get alcohol 120% and use it to mount an image of you d2 cd onto your hard drive. then the game will run off that image, and you wont need the cd every time you play.

Unfortunatly, I can't get the expansion cd to read in my old computer, and that won't copy what it can't read :(

First, does your old computer not read the disc at all or does it just not recognize it as being a Diablo Expansion disc?

If you have the computers networked you could try mounting it on your new computer and transferring it. You also could burn a new copy of the Expansion with your new computer (perfectly legal for backup purposes) and see if your old computer will read that.

I was wondering about this, and if Bnet would consider it a hack. I just dont want to get booted for having the ability of a no cd read. I can live with it if i cant....but ya it sure would be nice.

well i suggested it and i most definitely run it from a cd image. there is no reason this could be considered a hack and is perfectly reasonable to use for any cd you have. its most certainly not considered a '3rd party program' or you might as well consider 'windows xp' to be a 3rd party program too. i still need a legitimate cd key, and bnet cant tell if i *actually* have the cd in the drive anyway. i also learned this trick from the good people at the amazon basin, who most certainly do not use hacks. and ive never been banned. and it keeps my cds safely tucked away and eliminates annoying spinning. i hate spinning. except for the teacups at disney world. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
