Patching the basic D2 and Expansion disk

I have had to completely reload D2 and the expansion. That puts me on v1.07

It works, but some of the early enhancements are not available without patching. I need a patch that provides the "hardcore" option and has the runes in gold. etc. I suppose I should get up to 1.13. I tried to use the 1.14 patch, but it was not happy because I was on 1.07.

You should be able to update to the most recent version by attempting to log in to battle.net. You don't need an existing account since the game will patch itself before you get to the login screen.

Arreat summit also used to have a list of patches to download (or at least the most recent) though I can't find it on their website.

The Bliss Complete Collection includes all of the versions of D2 and the version switcher. The Singling mod which is also included in BCC includes hardcore support for every version singling supports.
