OT: sprechen sie deutsch?

OT: sprechen sie deutsch?

thanks for looking here. if you can read the title, you may be what im looking for.

the situation: im in my final year of school, and on monday i have a german speaking test, it will make up 25% overall of my german grade. im not bothered about what i get, as long as i pass it. its the only subject im not on target to get an A in (if your not sure what the UK system is it goes U (fail) G>A (pass) and the best is A*, C is the general target for anything worthwhile)
anyway, the speaking test is in 3 parts. conversion, role play (like reading a script, but not knwoing what it is beforehand) and a prepared speech.
now i can proably blag my way through the first 2, but the speech i need to learn lots and i dont think i can do that for monday.

the solution: so, to anybody who is fluent in german (someone living in a german speakign country would be perfect), if i were to send you the script of my speech in english, woudl you be able to translate it back to me so i can then learn it, knowing it is all gramatically correct and ive got the right words
i knwo this may appear cheating, but we are encouraged to use "extra sources of knowledge" and it is rather important.
if your ok with what i hoep to do, can you post your email, or PM me with it, and i'll send you the english some time friday when i finalise what i want to say.
Oh, and try to imagine someone who has been learning a language not very well for just 2 years (with just 2 hours of learning a week), dont expect pages and pages of complicated language, jsut dont laugh at me...
Ok, it should be longer than a few hundred words.
thanks very much, or as i should say, danke schon!

Hey bob, being a language teacher at one point, I'd really frown on this...what you should do is write your speech in your german, attach the english as well, and ask for help correcting your version. At least that way you would have put some meaningful work into it, also it might show you where your german is weak and help out in other areas.

Good call, Fafner. I was going to suggest something similar. :) Also, if it were in French, I could help you out with a proofing, but sadly, I sprechen no deutsch. :p

i was told to use extra resources. and it speaking, not writing there concerned about.. come on, have some pity for me...:uhhuh:

What I mean is you write the speech in your german, someone will correct it, and Voila you have perfect german speech to practice...It'll take what, 1 hour to write it? Does it need to be a specific topic? Do the Magna Carta in german...

I'm not trying to bust your nuts here, I'm just saying from an educator's stand point what your proposing is unethical, if you don't at least put a little into it.

edit: and although there are forum members who can definately hook you up, and probably will, if you put in the effort I can hook you up with my friend, native German speaker, who is very nice and very good (he translates research journals from german to english).

I´m German and I can help you out there. But please do like Fafner said. That way you put some effort in it and you can always say you earned your grade. Wouldn´t it leave a sour taste in your mouth otherwise?
It has the added benefit that you won´t get something back that is clearly way over your level. :)
If you want to go with it, mail it to [email protected]

All the best!

you people just dont understand! bob is obviously too busy posting and playing diablo2 that he has no time to write 2 papers! sorry bob, but i hated german class (the teacher moreso than the class) so much i dropped it after 2 weeks :D

Farting Bob I hate to say it but Fafner makes an extremely good point. I know that you have little time to complete your task. However, I had a similar situation in high school when I took spanish, I got a C in the class I did what Fafner suggests you do but, I know I earned my grade and didn't cheat my way through it.

As my Parents always told me "If you do your best we can not say anything wrong about it". Cheating your way through by having others do your work is not your best. I wish I knew German well enough to help you but I don't, I know there are enough people on the forum that would be ready and willing to help you though. I wish you good luck getting it done on time.

The other thing to consider bob, is that when you write it yourself, you'll have a much better time of remembering it, and it will be easier to speak it. Plus, the better you can write, the better you can speak a language, as you have to know the proper grammar for it, etc. I'm all for having someone edit, but really, it's best to do the primary writing yourself, especially if you ever want to do anything with the language.

I, too, would volunteer to have a look over your text and correct it, as long as you provide the draft in german. Not one from a translator programm, that is.

For the fun of it, I could add some samples of Swabian (that's the dialect spoken where I live).
