Ot ..help me with windows 98 plz

since everyone knows hc players are the smartest i was hopein someone here could help me ....i bought a used computer for my girlfriends parents and it runs windows 98 ( its kind of an older comp :) anyway .... it will only let me go up to 16 colors on the desktop settings. I stuck in some old 16 meg voodoo 2 card i had in a drawer but still nothing ... the same voodoo 2 card used to run much better color on an even older computer ...

I only use xp at home so im kinda blindly going along here with 98...anyone know what i can do?
 
C:Format - Yes.

Windows 98 sucks. Windows XP sucks, windows sucks..but you're going to have to deal with it ^^.


I suggest fragging the whole bloody mess and loading xp or what ever.

well... the whole idea was not to spend alot of money and have something better then the 200 mhz comp they had before ,....this one is only a 667 but its much faster for them then before ......exept 4 the color...

xp is gonna cost about $170 and more ram is gonna be another $50

Ram is always good though....Quite frankly I've found computers to not be worth going half assed on, as they are more work than they are worth at times.

if u got the money to buy girlfriends parents new computers then u got a lot more money then me :)

anyway ...anyone know how to solve this prob?
 
If it is a really crappy comp, WinXP is not gonna run well on it....

I'd format the thing and re-install Win98 (make a Startdisk with CDRom drivers first, so you can install it right away from CD)
 
As Mouse said (I thought he was sacrificed to Bill Gates already by Cy, hmm I must be going nuts), you should have the drivers installed.

If the Voodoo card had a driver CD already, try that. Also, be sure that you have at least some sort of DirectX, since some don't have it on a CD with the graph card package.


Or you could call to Microsoft Tech support, only $40 per call (ok, joke, but it really costs that much per call)

Or you could format c: /s /f

If everything above fails, get your BotD thunder maul and ...apply... it to your girlfriend's computer and tell her how that was the best choice.
 
Yup - sounds like your average driver problem ;)

If you don't have a disk or CD rom for it, try the internet for drivers.
 
thx 4 the help guys but i already took the pos back :)

ill spend the 250 on up grading the chip and motherboard on my comp ....1300+ amd atm ..maybe upgrade to 3300+ or around that......

or maybe a new monitor .....u guys are gonna laugh when i tell u what im usin .....

no joke...its a 15" monitor from the 486 i bought when they first came out ......

time to spend some money mabey
