nonladder vs. ladder ... help?

nonladder vs. ladder ... help?

It has just been defaulted to me when playing that I would create a ladder character. From what I know, ladder characters deal with less duping / cheating , etc. I have a few questions about ladder characters though. First off, how long does a ladder season last? Is it worth my time to play ladder if I am a casual player? Also, when ladder characters are converted to non ladder at the end of a season, is this what is called 'open' bnet (And can be played offline?)

If you know of any other advantages/disadvantages to playing on ladder please fill me in. I'm such a D2 newb.
 
There are ladder only items. If you play on closed battle net. It will always be on closed. Open is where you can hack all the time. In nonladder the items are much cheaper except for the items that are ladder only and have been converted to nonladder.

re less duping: not so sure if its less. specialy this ladder where a hr is going for 2 ists at the very maximum

a ladder lasts roughly a year (I believe this last one lasted 14 months) <edit to mention no one knows how long the current ladder will last. But one thing we do know for sure is blizzard will announce its end in their official web page. and of course then you'll be able to read it in here since one of the many members will post the news here as well>

I believe so since you then are able to make ladder only runewords some of which (example spirit shield or insight) arent all that expensive runewise.

when a ladder ends all chars + the gear they have is then moved to non ladder. this means any ladder items only you take with you will still work. But you wont be able to build any more of them in non ladder

And no you cant play non ladder chars off line

Thanks alot. It seems that after taking 2 years everything I had once known is forgotten. Now I gotta retrain my thinking to D2 and not WoW

By the way, anyone on USEast just getting started again like me? The only items I have are crap and am looking for someone to trade my crap uniques for their crap uniques. Thanks

Did you consider saving pgems which then can be traded for pul to um if you have 40 of them? Also other runes you may want to save are rals for trade since a lot of players use them for crafting. and if you have extra amns and thuls you can sometimes find rather decent trades since most of the times people are willing to overpay for these so they can finish their spirits faster

yeah im in the process of collecting PGems right now. I only have a handful, and my highest char is a level 37 freezealot. I'll have to remember about the rals, amns, and thuls. You should see my equipement, its pathetic =D, but I can still kill things fine!

How much are Pgems worth? Give me a pgem to unique item trade example just so I can get an idea.
 
Ladder all the way...the ladder only things like cubeing and rw's...that keeps me on ladder...as far as dupes...i use to thinki that NL dupped more and it probably does but you know what...ladder is getting up there as well...2 ists for a HR is insane

edit** put it this way...40 pgems= 1 Pul
 
Ok I have to ask this, what the heck is HR? I see it everywhere and I looked on the abbreviation page and didn't see it. Someone help me out =/
 
HR = High Rune. Vex and above.

I'd try out the Ladder, even though the season may be getting to the halfway point. Lots more to do there with all the extra recipes and runewords. I haven't touched my nonladder accounts since the new season started, except to keep them from expiring.
 
After you gather PGems and start buying yourself a couple mid runes, you could use it to fund a char to do key runs, which is a guaranteed source of profits.
