Newb Meteorb what to do?

Am completely new to D2 (3 months) soooo much to read, like playing catchup AND in another language! Hoto/HRS/10/20/anni WTF?

Anyways, non-ladder level 82 in act 2 - hell, w/ holy freeze merc, buddy and I (a newb barb) are struggling with enemies...

I have almost full (gifted) tal's set (missing armor), want to add sockets to help me out. Eventually wanna beat hell/ubers then retire to charity rushing for the hell of it, and some MFing etc. I prefer sheer power (for rushing, keys, ubers etc) over MF, and am not "rich" so what should I do to make me more powerful/live longer?

I run pits in my spare time, but they haven't given me anything (maybe my MF is too low...)

So I'd like to get more socket quests to socket everything me, my merc, and my friend have, and know what to socket when I do... What's the easiest way to rush socket quests (guide?), and what should I socket? (and where is it best to find gems to start on my way to wealth?)

Also where to find SOJ's?

Sometimes I just feel like saying "screw it" and spending 20-30 bucks at D2legit to make her perfect... does anyone ever actually do that?

K , you are on the right path with Tal-set, its great for meteorb. Idk what armor you are wearing, and what gloves, but with I can tell you don't a lot of fcr, I would suggest getting viper or upped viper if you can afford it. Fcr and res on it with +1 to skills. For key runs, you can easily do summoner and countess with meteorb, but merc needs to kill countess (fire/cold imm). For mfing, run hell andy and meph, meph is easy enough with moat trick. Andy is easy for you since you have fire. Best place to get soj is debatable, but in my opinion, don't go and "search" for it. I got one and it was from a random super unique. If you really want to, run nm andy, but its chances of dropping are still low. (Unless you do 1000 runs where it hits like 65%). If you want to do ubers, then try to get ur friend barb a lifetap items, sorcs are great for key running, but doing ubers requires expensive items.

1) What i am wearing: tals helm, ammy, orb, belt, haramasues (sp) armor,
frostburns, war travelers, some cool shield with 2 perf diamonds
ravenfrost, random defensive ring

2) Do the keys drop randomly?

3) What should I be looking at socketing into my stuff for more power?

4) Where should I go for gem hunting?

1) The full Tals set offers some nice bonuses. As a meteorb, I'd really try and complete the set instead of grabbing some random armor. Tals + Magefist + 35 FCR Spirit Monarch is quite common setup. You'll hit 105 FCR and the Spirit monarch is hard to beat, unless you're set on going max block.

3) You can add facets to increase your damage. They can be a bit spendy however.

4) For low level runes you can hit up Countess. For gems, I'm not quite sure. If no one answers that question, check the ATMA drop calc.

Keys are about 1/10 runs even with good mf I had around 600 and seem to have about same luck with 350 so I went with lower mf and added other charms resist life etc.

Socket wise rush a few friends through normal act 5 for their quests get a group of them other than that you should have your 3 quests to use as well.

Gem hunting is random pit drops a ton of gems same with chaos...runes on the other hand you should do Countess...being a Meteorb it will be hard just get a decent merc or a friend who has lightening or melee and clear all then send tp for them to come finish up. The other good part about trying for the runes on Countess is the keys that were posted above.
