Needed quests only to finish Act V

What are the quests that must be finished to finish Act 5?

1) Killing Baal only
2) Killing Ancients then Baal
3) Other quests?

As far as I know if someone gives you the waypoint to WSK2 in an MP game then all you need to do is kill Baal. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

The Anya quest gives one of best reward in game, why you would skip it?

in 1.10/1.11, you just need to defeat ancients and baal.

In 1.09 and before, this was true. However, since 1.10, characters that do not have credit for killing the ancients cannot take portals into the WSK.

I haven't really MP'd since the 1.09 days. I seem to remember people talking about skipping the ancients before. That must've been back then also. Thank you for the correction.

hey, i thought we are supposed to play legit clean game right? keep waypoints? only hex edit can do that.

That's right, the reason people skip the ancient is not to skip quest, but to save it later for reaching lvl99. After lvl95, leveling becomes extremly slow. from 98 to 99, it seems impossible. There is one good thing about ancient quest reward: it always gives full exp. So if you save all three, and do them once you hit lvl98 (or the last bit of 98 -> 99), it is a hugh bounes.

Since 1.10, this cheesy factor no longer works (thanks God).

In multiplayer game, it's a common thing to give a waypoint - one player has waypoint, goes there, and makes a town-portal. Second player goes through the portal (must be partied) and activates the waypoint for him. Though you can't get trhough TP into WSK if you haven't defeated Ancients.
Forget about hex editor...

I see, it all makes sense now. I agree that it's a good thing it's changed if it was being used that way. 99 seems to be one of the major goals in the game and bypassing a large chunk of the time needed seems to diminish the accomplishment.

Semi-back on topic, I don't think that it's a good idea to skip any quests really. If someone is trying to build a powerful character fast then the quest rewards seem instrumental in that character's power. Especially the resist scroll and the socket quest in act 5. I guess they could come back and do them later but that just doesn't seem fun to me. Fun is subjective though so if that's what works then go for it.

Actually, with a bit of effort, it still can be used.

As long as one partied member earns credit when the ancients are killed, IIRC all party members can enter the WSK through the gate at Arreat Summit.

So if you have a lvl 1 rushed char in hell partied with a char that's doing the ancients quest, he can get the WSK2 WP.
Correct :)
I forgot to count the amount of times that I had seen a lvl 3 character in Hell games (Cattle Net) I used to sit there and say WTF... hakked until I realised what was going on.
Diablo, you need to be there for the quest. After that .... well that's all I will say as I as I consider it cheesy, contary to others opinions.
If you can find someone kind enough to rush you all the way through Hell or do it your own way in SP it can be done :)

But can you still get the exp bonus if you go back to fight ancient later? since you already got the credit, I guess you cannot. At least, this bit is still good.

I think it works a little differently. (Before ATMA, I would have a mule stand in town to collect items.) The low level character needs to be partied with a character that has not done the Ancient/Baal quests. They will not get credit for the ancients. (The quest screen says that they are too low a level. You get the same message for the imbue quest if you haven't hit level 8, by the way.) The character cannot enter the WSK or get the WP. However, if the partied character then kills Baal (for the quest) the low level character will show the Baal quest as being competed. They still cannot go into the WSK, but they can move on to the next difficulty. (So, you can't skip the ancients for latter and then do Baal runs.)
