Need some Open Battle.Net Help

Okay, I'm trying to play open battle.net with my friend, but for some reason we can't join eachothers games. . .

We always get FTJ. We both tried creating games, with passwords, and without passwords, we've also tried TCP/IP, it couldn't recognize the IPs. .. .

Anyone know how we can fix this?

If the computer hosting the game is behind a NAT device (commonly known as a broadband router), you need to open one or more ports on the NAT. I'm not sure which ports are needed, and the configuration of your NAT depends on the manufacturer.

Yeah. .I think we both are. We can play on closed battle.net just fine. .do I need different things for Open battle.net?

Yes, it is different than closed because in this case a player's computer is hosting the game and must be able to accept connections. Any recent NAT should have a web-based configuration interface. If your computer's local IP address is (e.g.) 192.168.0.100, try opening http://192.168.0.1 with your browser. Also (in the case of a tcp/ip game), make sure other players are trying to connect to the NAT's external IP address (this can be found in the configuration pages).

I tried going to to Http://then my ip, but it said page cannot be displayed (What am I trying to do here?)
You shouldn't try to connect to your computer's IP, but rather your NAT/router's IP. This may take a little guesswork. Find out your own IP by typing "ipconfig" at a command prompt (no quotes), or "winipcfg" in the run box (for windows 95/98). Your router's IP should be similar to this, only the last number of the address usually changes, and it's usually either very low (0, 1, 2, ...) or very high (..., 253, 254).

Ah I see. Yeah I know how to get my ip, and now that you mention that, I forgot you could connect to your router like that.

Thanks for your help.

Edit:
Now I just need to know my dads username/pw. :bonk:

Or just find the reset button on the router and use that. Best of luck, I'll be away for a couple hours, but I'll check back here later in case you have troubles.

What if the router thingy has like a website where my dad has is acc/pswd to change stuff about the router on the website, its a Netlink Router BTW. Need to fix it...he won't undo it or w/e...cuz Starcraft doesn't work at all and all my games lag up because of it

Okay, I havn't done anything yet, but I was wondering, before I started messing with things, are you sure It's something with our routers? Cause I can join other peoples games. .I'm not sure if he can. .but yeah.

So what exactly am I trying to open up. .

Yes I can join other people's games on Starcraft, but then it gets extremely lagged up and I can't DL the map...the Router just makes all my other games a lil bit slower but I can still play.

It's not that there's anything wrong with your routers, it has to do with the way the router shares your IP address. If you are hosting a game and someone tries to connect to your IP address (which is the WAN, or external, IP address of the router), the router will receive a packet from the other player trying to join your game. Here's the problem: the router doesn't automatically know which computer on your LAN side of the router should receive this packet. The solution is to tell the router to forward all trafic with a given destination port to a specific computer on the LAN. In this case, you'd want the router to forward traffic with D2's destination ports to your computer. This traffic will then reach the D2 application on your computer.

I hope this makes sense, it's hard to describe address translation without going into too much detail; ask if you need clarification on something.
