+n Absorb vs. Absorb n%

 So, if I get hit for 15000 fire damage, and I have +40 fire absorb, I take 14920 damage?
If you didn't have full life, otherwise you'd take 14960 dmg.

You need consider res, and if a spell have listed dmg 15000, the dmg per frame maybe much less, say 200 per frame. And the +40 absorb will absorb 40 each frame, so sometimes it works pretty well.
I do not know the detail, I hop some guso can tell me details about this.^^

I'll assume you're talking about pvp, since you mention getting hit by 15000 ;)
There are times +absorb is better than percentage absorb.
Say somebody hits you for 5000 lightning damage, like FoH.
That goes through the pvp hit of .17, so they do 5000 times .17 = 850 damage.

Now your resists apply...say you have 75% resists, they do 25% * 850 = 212.

Ok...so if you had a 20% Wisp on, it'd absorb 20% of that 212, and heal it back to you, in essence reducing that 40% to 127.2 (note that you take the damage first, and then heal it back...you CAN die first).

Now say Tgod's has +20. It absorbs straight 20 damage and heals it back, and you'd take 172 damage.

Now, where + modifiers can actually be better is with higher resists, cuz they can actually HEAL you...percentage absorb, by nature, cannot heal you (if you absorb 20% of 10 damage, you're only getting back 2).

Say I put on a Guardian Angel and TGods belt for 95%. They do 4000 damage time .17 for 680, reduced 95% to only 34 damage. TGod's absorbs 20 of that and gives it back, meaning it'll actually heal you roughly 6 points.
This also works on Gloams...they heal you too ;)

I have a question about % absorb because im still not clear on it.
I thought if you had 50% absorb it made you immune because it absorbed 50% of the dmg and healed you 50% back effectively doing no dmg to you.
But when i tested my theory it was wrong because i had 50% cold aborb on my druid and a cold sorc damaging me with only cold killed me.

Please explain to me how % cold aborb works.

1. you have to be able to survive the initial hit, otherwise you will die first before absorb works.

2. see previous posts. it's all there, just read it again.
