Most effective nmr Meph run for an iron golem necro?

Totally untwinked gear, mostly lame MF stuff. I'm currently level 60 with an act 2 merc. Just wondering the best method for successful Mephisto raids using an iron golem. As of now, I'm having a hell of a time as it takes me about an hour to find the stair down to Durance 3, and then about 20 minutes to destroy the minions then Mephisto.

Could someone provide me with a few tips to make things easier and faster? Thanks.

I think you need to give a few more details on your build before anyone can answer. Unless you have a real Golemancer (which is hard and slow as you describe), IG is only part of your build. So what is your skill setup?

THanks for your reply.

My build is:

1 point into each curse.
Maxed Iron Golem.
Maxed Golem Mastery.
Maxed Blood Golem.
Next will be maxed Fire Golem.

I really think I screwed up with this build as it's taking way too long to clear Durance 2. I was looking for the ultimate MFing Necro...

I would make an iron golem out of something with decent dmg/speed and thats cheap. Like an IK maul. You can even socket the maul with ias jewels/shael or other things.

I'm my opinion, maxing FG to synergise your IG is a waste - the additional damage your Rusty will do as a result is minimal.
Better to max CG instead, at least you will get a better AR for your IG, so he will hit more often. His damage potential is greater coming from the item you made him from, compared to the FG synergy.
Not only that, you get a super-duper CG that slows critters to a crawl.

To remake or not to remake? I've gotta say that I feel fairly safe most of the time, it's just slow going. Also I should note that I play hardcore exclusively, so safety is key.

I'm thinking I'll focus points in Clay instead of Fire since I haven't beefed up either yet and give that a try before I completely abandon this character. Also, I might turn one of my precious exceptional uniques into an Iron Golem, man I hope he doesn't die on me...

A Golemancer (=Necro with Golem and not much else) is extremely slow and hard to play. Look at the thread in this forum by Lozhinge; he's taken a Golemancer through Normal, NM and Hell.

Anyway, if you want to use an Iron Golem it's probably best to integrate him in another build. For Single-Player PvM a Skellymancer is the obvious choice, and Mage Lord (= Lich Lord) an alternative. You can't really combine it with Bone or Poison because they need skill points in synergies.

For multiplayer you could also try a Mojomancer, and focus on curses. Or else build a sort-of utility necro; get the Iron Golem with some good aura (but only max Golem Mastery), get a point in all curses, max Corpse Explosion and max Dim Vision. All these skills are extremely useful in parties, but you don't have any killing power of your own.

Ed from Russia,
It wouldn't be a good idea to have max (60) poison synergies with...say...10 golem mastery, and 1 in each curse and 1 in each golem (maybe 2-3 each in clay and iron)?
This looked like an interesting build possibility.....

Sure, I think that would work fine. A bit hard to play SP because you only your golem to tank (as opposed to Poison/Summoning hybrid with skellies), but doable.
