Missing first normal set\uniques

Hello,
I've checked from Arreat site all the set\unique items I have found so far.
I noticed that I miss a lot of the first normal object of each type (and ok, some from exceptional and MANY from elites). I think this is due to the fact that I switched to Lod from classic at level 80 with a Paladin.

I'd really like to complete at least the normal items (the other require way too much time).

So how can I get those? In hell I mostly find exceptionals (the annoying useless ones lol). Should I return to Nightmare (again!) or would I waste rush chances? Should I lower MF or what..

Thanks

I'll add a list of the normal items I miss (long but it's only harmless text)

Re: Missing first normal set\uniques

A lot of items you are missing are TC3 items, which are pretty rare, because only monsters in early normal drop TC3 items often, but almost none of those can drop set/uniques of TC3 due to high qlvl.

Common places for TC3 hunting can be Normal Andariel, Rakanishu, the superunique archer in the pit (forgot her name) and esp. normal Cow King...if you glitch him (with 2 characters).

But I'd first recommend to maybe run NM Mephisto for the other normal uniques you're missing - maybe you get lucky and he even drops a TC3.
Oh, and for the Set Amulets: you can run NM or Hell Andariel for them.

btw, you can check drop chances per item via ATMA - that would probably answer all of your questions :)

Re: Missing first normal set\uniques

The MF guide in the stickies has a section on TC3 hunting. I suggest you check it out - it has all the information you need.

Re: Missing first normal set\uniques

TC3 items can be as rare (or more rare than) TC87 items due to the games drop mechanics and where people do most of their runs.

Most MFing is done in hell where monsters drop a greater proportion of exceptional and elite items so less normal items drop.

When a creature is chosing what to drop items are grouped into sets of four (or maybe three) Treasure Classes.

Take Hell Baal for example (this is probably oversimplified but this is roughly how it works).

First off he has six drops so for his first drop he'll decide whether to drop on item or have a no drop.

Assuming it's not a no drop a TC has to be choosen next. There will be a roll to decide if the item comes from either TC87, TC84, TC81 or TC78 next. If that fails then there is a roll to decide if the item comes from TC84, TC81, TC78 or TC75, if that fails then it's TC81, TC78, TC75 or 72 and so on.

Obviously TC87 only gets one shot whereas those below TC81 get at least four shots.

The same is true at the bottom end, where TC3 will only get one shot.

The same theory holds for Pindle and for Meph but starting from TC78.

So TC3 gets a rough deal only getting one "chance" to be chosen and right at the end of the list.

(Now as I said at the start there's a lot more complexity to the drop mechanics than this, but it's a rough idea.)

You can increase your chances of getting the TC3 by running targets in normal, like Grisu mentioned. There is a detailed post, probably in the stickies, regarding TC3 hunting.

Re: Missing first normal set\uniques

Doh..more rare than elites.. lol
That's why I almost have the same number of exceptionals uniques as the normal ones

I'll search the sticky, thanks guys

Re: Missing first normal set\uniques

Of course, eventually the high-end Hell difficulty bosses will drop TC3's too. I got a Gull from Baal once, for instance.

Re: Missing first normal set\uniques

And I got a Lenymo from NM Mephy. It's possible to get them from NM and Hell, but unlikely.

Yeah, check the guide that's already been mentioned, but for some of the others (like Magefists, Milabrega's Robe, Patriarch, Steel Driver) will eventually drop from NM Meph. Sucks to have to backtrack, so maybe make a new MFer with different skills to add some variety to your eventual Hell MF runs.

Good luck!

You'll end up having multiples of all the exceptional uniques, and most of the elites, before you get all the normal uniques.. It's kinda funny that when you're just annoyed when another unique Ogre Maul drops, you're excited to see a unique Club

This is not my experience. When I found Bane Ash a couple of months ago, my set/unique normal armor/weapons grail was completed, but there are still about two dozen exceptional S/Us I have never seen, and the majority of the elites.
(I don´t know what category (normal, excep., elite) to put rings/amulets in, but of the ones with not that high qlvl, I miss Tal Rasha´s Adjudication and Telling of Beads)

I guess this is because I do not do any runs, and I have started many characters that I have given up on or is on hold. So I have seen the early game a LOT more than the late game. And since I always do full clears and try to maximize MF in the early game, I´ve had better chances than many players to see the TC3 items.

Re: Missing first normal set\uniques

Wow, the sorceress rocks! I've leveled up and found more special items in one month with her than one year with a Paladin..

Anyway Coldcrow is a very bad girl at giving uniques :yuck:

Here's the missing items updated list for my pleasure

Indeed, I think your playstyle of not doing runs has a lot to do with the uniques you've seen. Most players, particularly dedicated MFers, do runs to focus on maximizing item-finding. Finding the best spots (Meph) and doing them over and over again mindlessly is quite common and tends to fill out the exceptional items quite quickly.

Running Hell Meph for the MFO last summer I got almost every exceptional unique in a matter of two weeks.

Plug: you may find the TC3 Item Find Guide helpful, draft at http://www.purediablo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=585846

Re: Missing first normal set\uniques

Hey, nice tool indeed!
No more manually checking hehe (i wrote a list of the missing ones)

Fun to see all stats (even if poor for elites):
-Normal Uniques 94\117 80.34%
-Exceptional Uniques 74\119 62.18%
-Elite Uniques 12\85 14.12%
-Jewelry 11\30 36.67%
-Class-Specific Items 6\27 22.22%
-Normal Sets 60\62 96.77%
-Expansion Sets 36\65 55.38%

And I started MF with the sorceress only lately, so I hope in better results soon. :jig:

p.s: mm the program counts runes and miscellaneous items 2 times..
