1.He uses a 2 os bonehew, what should I socket in it?

2. What armour and helm?

Btw, Hes an act2 Holy Freeze merc


PS: when a merc equipment loses all of its durabulity, do I have to repair it?

It depends oyour merc level!

Bonehew requires a lot of str! If ethereal than less strength! To lower the str rq u can socket it with one hel and one amn rune.

I usually use Guillames face, Shaft (or other armour which gives strength like Gris set armour with 3 perf rubies for life or 3 per topazes for mf) and Bonehew! Another choice is Andys visage (huge str boost, and LL) with a ral rune (zeros the fire resistance from -30 to 0. Andys requires lev 81 or 82 to use though!

Shael + Amn is the best combo to put in Bonehew since it the extra IAS from Shael will make sure you hit the next breakpoint. Only disadvantage is indeed that you will need a large strength boost from helm, armor or both, but this should be possible without having to use a completely crappy setup. Andariel's Visage is a great helm indeed, and armors with good resistances also aren't too bad a choice for your buddy.

Yes indeed shael/amn is nice on Bonehew! Forgot about that combo!

Another armour for your merc is also Stone! Gives +16 str and huge % enhance defense possibilities, 60% faster hit recovery, vitality, resistance, and more! Make it in an eth armour (if superior eth even better).

Just use a chamed levi for the +str lol... Thats what my merc uses hehe

My act 2 merc uses upped duriels, tal mask and eth bonehews with 2 40ed jewels.

my ik barb's act 5 merc (lolol) uses arreats, grandfather and upped perfect duriels.

i'm crazy...

Which, indeed, is better: ShaelAmn or AmnAmn? I decided to go with the increased leech and went Amn Amn, but I'm sure we can get someone to set up a formula to determine average leech per hit and average leech per second (frame?) for an 85th lvl merc with each setup.

My freezer uses AmnAmn'd 'Hew and Guillaume's. He does very well except when he cannot close to range (archer packs) or gets swarmed by PIs. His only drawback is that I took off his DS Stone and replaced it with Que-Hegan's. "WHY???" Because his boss kept dying wearing the Que-Hegan's, that's why! Obviously, I am looking for better armor, but in the meantime I like wearing the Stone myself, and the freezer appreciates the help of the clay golem (Baal ceases to be a problem after the first hit).

When using Guillames face i have to say that amnamn bonehew is the better option! And thats cause u lack LL on youtr helm and if i recall right Que-Hegans lacks that! Try to get your merc duriell shell instead or maybe even Leviathan! Que-Hegans is not such a good armour for your merc...in my opinion anyway!

Well, yes. Better armor is at the top of the priorities list right now, even ahead of trapper GCs. Regretably, I am poor and this is making the going a bit tough. The only other option would be a M'avina's armor, and while that provides slightly better defense, it's not significantly better (IMO) and for now I'd rather the merc get his +1 to his aura and his +24 MF (there's a PT socketed in the Que-Hegans).

Note: kicking myself for not being faster yesterday, had an offer of Griswold's for M'avina, but lost the name of the trade session and couldn't find the dude again.
