Merc Armor question.

I hope this is the right forum to ask in... So I just now crafted a 4os etheral bugged Archon Plate.

My merc is pretty weak right now and wears a Guardian Angel (normal), a Kira`s Guardian and a Demon`s Arch (etheral). Although he doesn`t die as much anymore, his damage output is abysmal and mine isn`t the highest either (IK WW Barb with Angelic Amulett and Rings).

Sadly I don`t have the runes for the Fortitude runeword but I`ve got a Guillaume`s Face muled away.

Can you guys think of any useful runewords that would enhance my Mercs survivabilty and especially his damage output or would you guys just sell the armor in order to barter for other useful gear and if so what would you get?

Excuse the stupid question but I`ve never been so far and successful in hell before so I never had to ask myself such questions.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Merc Armor question.

Depending on the defense you should be able to get 2-4 ist for that armor, which could in turn get you, or your merc, some nice things.

Obviously the biggest hole in his gear is weapon. Reaper's toll is cheap (pul) if you don't care about eth, and would help a lot. The decrep proc is lovely, and of course the life leech. Obedience is another good cheap option, although you don't need the resists if you stick with kira's.

If you want to use the armor rather than sell it (and don't have a lot to spend as you say) stone is what you would make in it. Swap his hat for rock stopper and his weapon for reaper's and you're off to the races. Vamp gaze + Obedience or tomb reaver works too. All are super cheap if you don't care about eth.

Anyway, long story short, it is the demon's arch that is making your merc seem crappy. He needs a weapon upgrade a lot more than an armor upgrade.

Re: Merc Armor question.

Thanks for the advice.

Got a free Reapers from a friend now and both his survivability and damage seem a lot better now.

Srsly though... There should be a strategy section for the merc alone xD

I just realized I had a Stealskull stashed away. Wouldn`t that make a great helmet, too?

Re: Merc Armor question.

stealskull would get him the next IAS breakpoint, but with reapers + guardian angel + stealskull he'd have no resists - which would completely defeat the purpose of guardian angel anyway.

Re: Merc Armor question.

Yeah, unless you're looking to make Fort in it yourself, its probably better to trade it off to someone who is. Stone is about the only other thing you might use it for, but at Um+Pul, thats a little pricey for something you'll eventually replace and doesnt give you that much besides huge defense. I'm assuming you're not using a Defiance merc; probably a Might merc for a WW barb, right?

My usual setup is Vgaze, Treachery, and whatever pokeystick is appropriate (Insight, Obedience, Reapers, etc.) That gives you, when Fade triggers, 50% physical resists, 75% elemental resists, 45% IAS, and plenty of LL, which is just about everything you need to keep your merc alive. If you have LL on your polearm (ie Reapers), you can drop the Vgaze for Guillaume's for less defense and more offense; the 45 IAS from Treachery will mean his Jabs go a lot faster, and he'll land CBs from Guillaume's much more often.

Best of all, Treachery is super cheap, so since you already have Reapers and Guillaumes, all you need is to find a decent 3os armor and a Lem...

Re: Merc Armor question.

You bugged a 4os armor, you can bug a 3os armor for the Treachery. My merc is currently using Reapers, eth Treacher w/ about 1k def and an Andy's helm.... note that after he gets his Fade on, not even the -fire of the helm hurt him.

Re: Merc Armor question.

Ebug treachery is obviously best (and, fortunately, most people see 3os ebugs as "fails" since they want a 4os for Fort), but since Treachery has no %ED, its not as important, since the extra defense doesnt get multiplied like it does on Fort (ED on armor, CtC Chilling Armor). I wouldnt bother waiting for an ebug if you have a 3os nonebug elite armor you can use right now, not just to save a Lem.
