Leap Attack Variants

I recently came across a great guide for a 1.10 IK Leap Attack Barb (The Flying BOOYAKA, by Swarmalicious) and I've come up with a few variations on the skill distribution.
Most of the variations center around adding points to shout, mace mastery and berserk, for a secondary attack for PI's. I'd just like to hear some feedback as to which of these you think is the most viable (none of the above also being a valid option, assuming you have something constructive to add :D) The variations are as follows:

Swarm's template (High Def, Max LA Damage, +AR)
20 Leap Attack
20 Leap
20 Battle Orders
1-20 Combat Mastery (It appears that he prefers to use maces o.o)
1 Bash
1 Howl
1 Shout
1 Taunt
1 Iron Skin
1 Natural Resistance
0-1 Berserk
0-1 Battlecry/Warcry

Berserk as secondary (Max LA Damage, +AR, Berserk for PI's)
20 LA
20 Leap
20 BO
20 Berserk
20 Combat Mastery
+Prereqs, Utility

Partially Synergized Berserk(High Def, Hefty Berserk, Weapon Freedom)
20 LA
20 Leap
20 BO
20 Shout
20 Berserk
+ Prereqs, Utility

I realize that these builds don't really leave a lot of room skill point-wise. Perhaps I'm trying to cover too much ground for one character. Also, you may have ideas regarding the crowd control warcries to add and item set ups apart from the IK set. By all means, let me hear it.

he prefers mauls purely for cosmetic reasons. Feel free to equip a polearm if you want to.

Your suggestions are sound, but this is a bit more about what you should use your points at once the main build is finished.

So, help an uninformed guy out.

How exactly do jumping barbs work?

Do you seriously have to jump and hit every enemy, or is there some kind of splash effect that I am unaware of?

Complaining about how slow Concentrate is seems minute in comparison to jumping at every damn enemy alive!

i might recommend using a spear or other range 5 weapon, and i'm not sure, but a holy freeze merc might help you connect with moving monsters.

range of wep doesn't make a difference. when you land, there is a search for the nearest target. the search is always range 1, no matter how long your wep is.

it may make a diff if you land and then shift-attack, but then you don't need the LA for damage, just to move.

Probably whichever one can wear the heaviest equipment to bump up his terminal velocity and actually attack faster!

I planned on following Swarm's stat plan

str-200ish
dex-base
vit-rest
ene-base

should allow me to equip most anything, regardless of which of these builds I go with.

any attack that hits one monster at a time is not going to be a good killer, with the possible exception of zerk. LA is for fun, not for PWNING. if you wish to PWN, another build is better.

i love conjugating PWN. :)

perhaps a ww/LA build would be more appropriate. ww for crowds...that still leaves the physical immunes to deal with though. Oh well. If using concentrate is what I have to use to "pwn" then I think i'll just group up and jump around like an idiot.

Hey,

Thanks for the property props Arafax. Man, did that make my day. :)

In one word: yeah, use Berzerk.

I ended up using it a ltttle more than I let on in the guide. I'm monumentally lazy, and it's a whole lot easier to click with Berzerk than it is showing off with the boinging techinques. Just a few points goes a long way with a nice weap and a little IAS.

I would say I put most skill points after... jeez... level 75 (or so?) into Berzerk, after filling out BO, mace mastery, and the two jump skills.

Thanks again for the enthusiasm in the guide. I's aims to pleases. :D

Do you use Howl to break crowds and open up for jumping on mobs which were in melee change ? (if the weapon range doesn't enter into account and stay 1 then Howl will most probably make you miss everything :( since there is no 'immobilize' mobs afar trick for barbarians, all their stun is close range and no blind ability). Would a weapon with Hit Causes Monster to Flee be of any help when you can't 1-kill hit ? (and Prevent Monster Heal too I guess, else the big regenerating monsters will be a pain to kill ;) especially if you jump from one to the other)

Does R/W speed affects jump speed ? Would Increase Speed help reduce the jump time ?

How far can you start leaping from onto an opponent ? Can you knockback (bash) then LA on him ?

Isn't WW, as a support skill, highly weapon speed dependant ? Same question for berserk, no defense with a slow weapon, isn't it a bit too suicidal ?

I just read the link : http://www.froglicker.net/d2/leap.html, and it answers nearly all my questions in fact. Don't ask me why I didn't see it before :(
This page stresses the use of Mauls, but claims that Polearms range affect LA range. Shrug.
