Kind of confused : 3 soc / jewelers /artificer's mod

Hi,
Does each 3 soc magic helm spawn with the mod "artificer's " (3 soc) or "jeweler's" (4 soc) despite the fact that 4 soc is not available on helms.
( i have the french version of the game and I got a "Joailliers" mod).

Can one get a 3 or 4 soc magic armor, with a mod like + life, without having the mod Jeweler or artificer. If yes. What does bring the mod Jeweler or artif on top ?

Hope I am clear in this confusion.

No, you can't. Every magic armor with sockets will have one of the following prefixes: Mechanic (if 1 or 2 sockets), Artisan (3 sockets) or Jeweler (4 sockets). The existance of one of these prefixes gives to the magic armor its sockets. Same for helms, shields etc.

No M/A/J prefixes = no sockets.

In all of Diablo, if an item is given more sockets than is possible for the item itself, the number of sockets will be the maximum for the item. A jeweler's helm is a good example of this. Another example is Aldur's Rhythm. The game code thinks it can spawn with 2-5 sockets, but the base type (jagged star) can only have 3 sockets. If Diablo tries to create an Aldur's Rhythm spawns with 4 or 5 sockets, it will end up in the game with 3 sockets.

Magic, rare, and crafted items will not spawn with sockets unless they have the mechanic's, artisan's (magic-only), or jeweller's (magic-only) prefix. It is impossible to get a 3 or 4 socket magic armor without the artisan's prefix or jeweller's prefix. It is possible to cube a magic weapon with an inherent 3 sockets. I do not know what would happen if it also spawned Artisan's or Jeweller's.

If you socket a magic item at Larzuk, he will give it 1 or 2 sockets (randomly). You can not socket an item that is already socketed.

In v1.10 you can´t cube one with 3 sockets. The chipped/regular/flawless gem recipes creates a magical item with 1-2 sockets (50/50 chance of 1 or 2). I have cubed hundreds of these and I have not yet seen one with a socket prefix. Maybe they are prevented to spawn? If they are not, I would guess that the item would get the highest number of sockets of the two sorces, if possible. Examples:
Artisan´s Great Sword would get 3 sockets.
Mechanic´s (rolled 1 socket for the prefix) item that gets a random number of 2 sockets, would get 2.

That's what I get for talking about a recipe I haven't used since 1.09. Thanks jiansonz.
